New Athlon chrony

@mwgm2020 Thats what I’m trying to determine. Whether fifiring BC or just trying to to determine the velocity around impac distance, I’d like to know if the unit is capabl from what I read, Garmin released a firmware update where Xero users can now capture a downrange reading. I’m wondering it the Rangecraft has similar capabilities.

Yes I’m aware of some units that calculate BC. The FX True ballistics seems to be the main compact unit that can do so. I haven’t seen any Labradar LXs for sale on any sites. I’ve read bad reports on the Caldwell Velociradar (IIRC it also calculates BC).
I had not heard the Garmin can now get BC's. That certainly raises the bar.

I don't see BC calculations in the firmware update notes: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=YxJ5973KzPAvdcKSV01s07 unless "Added Downrange mode to pro settings" is adding BC calculations. I don't see BC calculations as a feature on garmin's website either.

@mwgm2020 I didn’t say that Garmin Xeros calculate BC. I said there seems to be a “downrange” function that reads a velocity downrange. How far downrange I do not know. Shooters can figure BCs for themselves with enough data. A “near“ and “far“ velocity reading is necessary. This is what I’ve been asking about and discussing

@Joedirt199 To be clear, I’m asking if you know if the chronograph can be placed near the target as is without a firmware update. The manual doesn’t mention anything about it. I’m wondering if you as a user have tried doing this to get velocity readings further out aside from velocity at the muzzle.
Yes it can, I set mine next to the target at 100 yards and it captures every shot.

@Dave107 Can you elaborate on exactly where you placed the Rangecraft chronograph? How far to the side of the target was the chronograph placed from the target? How far forward of the target did you place it?

I placed it 3 inches off to side and about 5 in front of it. I took the average of 10 shots and used a bc calculator to figure bc. The numbers seemed to line up accurately, as I entered calculated bc into my Kestrel and my dope was on out to 300 on big bore and 150-200 on .25 cal....
