Scope Mounting Tip

I don’t know if I’m just slow sometimes or what, but I don’t recall reading this, so I’ll post it. Today I realized that it’s a goood idea to place an empty mag in the breech when mounting a scope. I spent more time than I’d like mounting a scope in some Burris Signature rings and mounted it on a rifle with a mag that couldn’t clear the bottom of the scope. I feel like I’ve been doing this too long to just now think to do something so simple. Hopefully my dumb move helps someone else to avoid doing the same.

Load a blank mag in the breech before attempting to mount your scope.

You are not alone in mounting your scope too low to clear the PCP magazine....
You are not alone!

I'll add a second scope mounting tip to avoid this scenario:

Before attempting to mount a scope, assure you only bought bullpups.

(The day I ignored that rule was the day I joined you in your scope-too-low-for-mag club. 🤦🏻‍♂️)

@JungleShooter Short pic rails and split rails are where I run into issues. Why do bullpups give you issues?

Dave,

like you, I was trying to give advice how to avoid mounting a scope too low.
One way — that worked for me until just recently 🤦🏻‍♂️ — was to only buy bullpups (no split rail ➧ no problem! 😆).
[It was my attempt to be funny.]

Cheers,
Matthias

I just use adjustable rings, makes up for forgetting to check clearance. Which I do every !@$% time.

Like Monday mounting a scope on my HM1000x before I had the QD_FOX magazines in hand...

Pull the adjustment screws, move the scope up a couple notches, put the screws back in. Magazine now clears the scope.
