Garmin vs Athlon Chrony

I agree, the Garmin app is just right. I've had the Garmin for quite a while, shot literally thousands of rounds over it and in all that time I think it missed one shot a long time ago that I couldn't explain. It is unbelievably reliable.
I used to hate getting everything ready to shoot over my old chrony and then have to fiddle with position, lighting, shooting at just the right spot, blah, blah, blah. Now the Garmin is never a consideration, it just works.

Garmin app is absolutely TERRIBLE and the units SW is clunky. Other than giving you real time data on your current string it's difficult to do anything else with it. The unit itself works great but the app and SW is a real let down. I've been on the phone several times with Garmin and they don't really care. Maybe they get their stuff together now there's competition.

My extensive experience with marine Garmin electronics is they won't. Their SW has always been clunky to the point of being unsafe and updates are usually only done to fix operation flaws.

If you occasionally want basic information in front of you. The Garmin is great. If you want to do anything with the information look elsewhere.

I'm curious, what do you not like?
The app downloads each string like lightening when you end it. From there you get all the shots and stats. If you like, you can then simply download them to your computer to save or manipulate.

I agree, it's pretty simple, (read, badic), but is works for all the pertinent data I need. I'm not sure what you mean about the onboard sw being clunky. I can have mine up and running in seconds, and the down'oad to phone is automatic.

I also wish it bluetoothed the display to your phone so you could use the phone as a dispaly, but for everything else you get in convenience, it's all worth it.

Just curious?

Wow, I have been running Garmin for many many years from handheld GPS, Marine electronics, mapping devices in my car and now shooting and trap shooting. I would rate the customer service as top notch! If i have issues they get them resolved right away. Sorry for your bad luck.
I am really happy with the Garmin Chrono, works great and the app is easy to use!

Easy to use? Yeah if you don't do anything with it. It's the clunkiest POS app out there. Try deleteing your sessions. You have to delete each one, one at a time which takes three steps iirc or you have to delete all of them by deleting the app data. Then you'll have nothing and you'll have to sign in again. How is that easy to use?

Garmin customer service is very good if you have a problem with a piece of hardware. Point out a legitimate software problem and they'll agree with you that it's not right, then politely tell you they'll report the issue but don't get your hopes up. They've gotten too big to care about making software thats useful and practical.

Ok I will agree that deleting sessions is a pain in the butt to do one at a time, but I still like it and will continue to use it

I have been hesitant on purchasing a Garmin because of their history of releasing half baked products. C2 Pro will have better OS.

I'm glad you like it. If you do nothing but look at the immediate session it's great. I run the unit anytime I shoot. Even changing the sessions is clunky. The hardware functions perfectly the software is TERRIBLE for anyone (like me) that uses it extensively for tuning.

You're entitled to enjoy the unit for your purpose but don't broadly say it's great when it's not. People need to know the truth to make a good decision. Garmin will only fix SW issues if it cost them money. Lots of money. IMO the Garmin unit functions perfectly. It's light years better than my old competition electronics pro chrono. Yet I still find myself scribbling chronograph results on tunes in a notepad because of the Garmin Software is so clunky. That's in both the unit and app.

I have no experience with the Athlons but if I were in the market for a radar chronograph I'd be looking hard at them and would want useful information on both. That's what I'm trying to provide here. At least on the Garmin.

Be well
Ron
