I have the Athlon 3-12x40,good scope, when compared to my Discovery scope in the same price range the Discovery scope wins.I have a less expensive Discovery HS4-14X44SF is close match,.I just giving some thoughts, one thing I have noticed.........as I get older ,the larger lens brings in more light and helps me.

EDIT: so sorry.....didn't read that you wanted Athlon!!!!! so sorry, I'm getting old i guess.

not exactly the same reticle but all relatively lightweight and real brands

I've looked at several Athlon specs in the last couple of years. Pretty sure they don't have too many options in the 16-18 ounce range .

Talos checks in @ 16.2 ounces
Mines the heaviest scope i have . Makes a gun feel top heavy. ( Talos 3-12)

Also discovery dont give a no question asked lifetime warranty as with athlon .

$319.00 on Amazon... within $50. of the price point and worth the $50 bucks all day everyday.

if you have Expert voice you may find it even cheaper (or used)

I see . Not bad.

The op should state what gun hes mounting up on .

Pcp.. just about anything works

Springer .. id stick to a no question asked lifetime warranty scope . I think the athlon under 300$ is it in thet respect . I used there warranty and it was taken care quick in 12 days from me to them and back on my bench .. impressed.. and works as new ..

The mil reticle in the Heras 2-12 is in .2 mil hash and is on the thin side. Maybe not the best for hunting against dark backgrounds but for general use it is fine.
I could still hit smaller steel on 2x at 50y but took some extra care.

It's the same size as my old Nikon 3-9×40 but a little heavier and a tradeoff is the Heras being much more versatile with better everything.
