What's the general consensus on PCP for hog hunting. I was considering the Macavity Ma2 30 cal for fusebox shots up to 100yds but am questioning if I should go larger. I typically take them with 200 grn 300blkout subsonic or an M&P 5.7 40grn supersonic both supressed but wanted to move over to Airgun. 45grn 30 cal rounds require accuracy while a 300grn 50 cal is more forgiving related to shot placement. I typically take them within 50yds but want to be able to reach out to 100yds. Anyone have good experience with this?

I picked up a DNT Zulus for this purpose. I never got into long distance shooting but was messing around consistently hitting a 12 inch steel plate at 300 yds with a 5.56 bolt rifle. At 100yds I'm 1moa and 50 yds I can hit the same hole using the DNT optic 20x digital zoom. my 22 cal marauder is dead accurate but too small to use so I figured 30cal would do it which brings me to which gun. Unfortuantely where I will be hunting my shots will be between 50 and 100yds so the 30 needs to be dead on or go with a 50 cal. You mention 100fpe with your Uragan-1 but the Macavity Ma2 is rated to 81fpe with 44grn and your experince is the 50-100 is really out the door so I guess 50 Cal it is!! Now the question - which 50 cal!!

This is a question I've had too, I want to shoot smaller hogs with a 75 fpe 22 air rifle and 34 grain slugs or there abouts. Ethics will be a variable, but on feral hogs it's not a deal breaker. Granted the energy is vastly different but I see guys using 20 grain 17 cal pbs to anchor them fairly regularly. My problem is my pbs go from blk to magnums way too quickly and they're obscene on the noise levels. I also want to use my way more accurate air rifle to do it because I spent a boatload on it.

i take them also with my .22 Huben with the 33gr peanut slugs with 72fpe.
there are 2 reasons we are shooting the hogs, 1 is for meat and the other is pesting.
when we pest, we want to recover the critter so we can remove it from the farm so Kiyotes cant get them.
and when we go for meat, its always a size guess of 75lbs or less.........
either way, we shoot between the ear and eye :sneaky:

Thanks for the heads up! It's pesting first, but if an animal looks decent I'm going to butcher it for the smoker. As a kid my dad and I got a 230 lb boar in a barley field and it was not good tasting at all (think old beer and adrenaline). I'd much prefer to go handle some "roaster" sized juveniles for the land owner and smoke him up a bunch of pulled pork, and my impact allows me some functionality and stealth that is relatively important in this setting.

I have a Vulcan 3 in 30 cal with the new HP regulator and I'm shooting 62.5 grain slugs at 1000 fps / 139 fpe ... Sub MOA at 100 yards, love it. I've had it almost a year and a half and zero complaints

When you say you take them with the .22 huben are you hunting them with the Huben or finishing them off with it. I've hunted with the M&P5.7 with 40grn hollow points and @ around 1500fps it puts them down with ease. If you are hunting with it what range are you shooting them at.
