Scope for FX King

Hello

Looking for some info for a scope to mount on a FX King! My distance of shooting will be 25 yards to a little over 100 yards. Mainly (red) squirrels, crows, pigeons and rabbits. Do you guys perfer 1st or 2nd focal point WHY??
Im open on price to a certain point. would like to stay around 500-700 dollars.. Will for sure take 100 yard shots.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thx

Just my opinions. Also don't cheap out, you won't regret a decent optic if your airgun is precise.

First focal always because your calculations and poi don't change based on zoom you zeroed with vs zoom you're using. You can miss, take mental note of where it hit if you saw with the reticle and make valid adjustments with what you saw.

I like my buddies arken, my arken hasn't shipped yet I love my element helix, and I love my zulus that is set for ffp(doesnt matter because it calculates for you.) I have a 2nd focal plane $$ vortex viper that I hate no matter what I put it on. Powder burner to my impact, impact to my dreamline, dreamline to my discovery. The 200 dollar discovery shoots good enough I'm peeling an 800 dollar 2fp scope off a crosman because the crosman is too good for it.

Sorry for the tangent, I'm just really mad at myself for spending that much on a 2fp turd.

I forgot the zoom part, did the calculations in strelok for a 68 yard shot and was 24 inches low on the pigeon. Just because of zoom choice.

I prefer second focal plan unless the FFP scope has a thick reticle. I like my Arken EPL-4 6-24 but I can't hardly use 6X because the reticle is so fine it almost disappears at 6X. My Primary Air 4-14 has a much thicker reticle so it is very visible at 4X. I understand why some want the value of the markings of the reticle to stay consistent as they change magnification but you need to see the reticle too. I often use the size of the target to judge hold over. A squirrel head is about 2 inches in diameter, for instance. To shoot at 100 yards you may want at least 24X but for close range shots it is really handy to be able to turn it down to 6X. My Athlon Talos 6-24 is a SFP and is really good glass for the price. My Arken is a little better but it should be since it cost over 1.5 times as much. Overall I like Athlon scopes for the price for decent glass. The have multiple lines, the Talos is towards the low end. I also have a Argos 10-40 and it's glass is great. But it's a really long and pretty heavy scope best used for target shooting IMHO. There is an Athlon Heras 6-24 SFP that would be great.

I am a Sightron fan.Japanese glass on anything at your price range makes anything better.Leupold and Burris are some others.....the high high end Discovery is cheaper and good.Primary Arms,.....I would study up on this subject on the Longrange Centerfire column, also Sniper Hide.I do hear the Athlon newer model Midas is good..

Yes indeed,I am wondering if it is the first model or the newer model,if the newer model the price is great, like get it now price.

With that reticle and price it's probably the older model. Maybe a closeout item. Yet it always was a great scope. Have friends that have done a ton of winning with this scope and it's pretty much their #1 go-to.

Its the original I'm sure. The new models are still not even in stock at most retailers. Midway has had these at this price for at least a year, many members here swear by them. Probably the best scope for the money in the whole Athlon line.
