Does it ever get old? Moving up from a springer to PCP was the best thing I ever did. In 7 days I have taken 28 of these tree rats. My son has enjoyed it, I have enjoyed it. Thanks to all the guys here on AGN for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks bud! Pierce 1911 adapter for AR. And a set of 1911 sideplates. May ne switching to a set of G10 grips soon and move these plates to my Impact.

What kind of ranges were you successful at? I have been considering the maverick as a first pcp. I have a 10 year old son who I am sure will want to shoot it. How old is your son and is the maverick (as a bull pup) pretty well balanced for a younger kid to shoot?

Most were 40 yards or so but anything out to 100 is easy. My son is 5 and he shoots off a tripod with an arca plate. The moderator keeps the noise down also so that help him feel comfortable not like my powder burners.

That is a nice setup. My son has shot a friends impact and loves it but it is a little too front-end heavy. I was thinking a compact with shorter barrel and smaller bottle may work better, but shooting from a tripod might be a good option. My eight year old daughter would appreciate it as well. Thanks for sharing your setup.

Definitely. I do alot of whitetail and predator hunting in fields. The tripods have become a new set of hands for me. I start with a basic set and moved up. FATBOYS are where it's at! I find that my tripod is more stable to me than sitting on a shooting bench with bags. My main focus with PCP was to be able to teach my son to look through a scope and see picture in picture at a young age without hearing protect. This way I could talk him through what he was seeing. He is very excited to whitetail hunt but no way am I going to allow him to shoot at game until I feel confident it will be ethical. My powder burners have thermal that I can watch from my phone but that does me no good if he is wearing hearing protection.

Yeah, my son doesn’t like the noise and is still worried about recoil. I think a pcp will let him focus on the fundamentals of breathing and trigger squeeze without flinching, then later on, worry about focusing through the bang. I have a .243 waiting for him but I don’t want him to get gun shy and develop bad habits from the get go. The black tail around here can get bigger a few more years if he isn’t ready.
