Stoeger Updated Warranty Replacement for XM1 Bullshark Arrived From Benelli Today

Was the previous gun more accurate??
Compare with post #20. They're similar but 1st gun had some tuning before I received it. This one's out of the box factory. And by the time I got to a comparison target I was rushing a little because of incoming rain. It really needs tuning. I'm going to work on the heavier H&N's since they seem to hold a better group down range.

@JimD
Got the Shark regulator tuned best I can. The long reach from the muzzle didn't work, reg screw would turn when tightening the nut back. Since reg went to an unknown settings after multiple tries I pulled it and started over. Long process of measuring, adjusting, reassembling, lots of air and 2 tins+ of pellets, finally got the reg at the fine line where any higher or lower on with reg and fps drops. Going to be needing an o-ring kit now. Factory ones wouldn't reseal after 1st disassembly, spares in kit gave out near the end, got some make due ones to seal and hold; dang the nonstandard manufacturers o-ring conspiracy.
Hammer spring all the way in, I'm getting in the upper 840's to 850 with 25.39gn; can get more if I preload spring with some washers but don't want to over stess things on a new gun. I did back it out to 800 to give me some later play for adjustments. Have to get more pellets and go back to testing for best pellets and accuracy again.
Thanks for your advice

You are welcome. It is wise to not tune to the absolute maximum hammer spring position because when (or if) the ambient temperature gets hotter you may have to turn up the hammer spring a little just to open the valve. This has happened to me several times, mostly on my 25 caliber. Another way to gain a little velocity (10 to 15 fps) is to open up the barrel port from 75% to 85% of bore size. It helps to make it longer than that (not wider) along the length of the barrel. I've done this on my 22 and 25 now and it helped both. I use diamond ball shaped bits in a dremel tool to debur the hole after drilling. But it depends some on how heavy a pellet your gun likes. If you are shooting 25.39 in a 22 you may need to do this. But there is also nothing wrong with a muzzle velocity of 800. My Prod will only do about 750 with 14.66 grain pellets and it is accurate and has taken 18 squirrels.

Mine is 25 cal. Lots of pellets on the market to try to find a really good match. Thus far it's seems the H&N Baracuda's 30.86gn group better beyond 35yds. Will be a while before I think of moding anything, need to get a feel for the gun first. Likely will polish barrel and crown though. First need to pull barrel and push some pellets through to feel for anything that scope doesn't show. This will primarily be a woods walking gun. Looking to get either the Ranger or Scout in 22 for a bench plinker, thinking Ranger may be the better choice for 125yds at my gun range. But having to hang on to $ for a replacement barrel on my big bore.

I have a scout in .25.
The ranger in .22 should be awesome.
I love my scout.

840-850 peak on a 25 caliber shooting 25.39 pellets is probably not turned up too high in my opinion. I had mine going 860-870 fps but I have drilled out passages for the air and an after market plenum. But when it got hot outside here velocity was low and I was looking at having to reduce the regulator, again. But I was working on a P35X and dropped that hammer spring in instead. It was plenty to open the valve and I turned it down close to 2 turns and still have 25.4 FX going over 900 fps. I am also using the 530mm barrel of the P35X.

I also have a 22 caliber bullshark and it has a brass valve instead of the plastic in my P35s. The P35X is brass too. The brass valve is smaller in diameter. So it should be easier to open. If so, that would mean you can go higher on the regulator before you run out of hammer spring. I think the plastic valve is 8mm, the P35X is 7mm and the bullshark may only be 6.5 but it also might be 7.5, I can't remember. But it is smaller than my P35s for sure.

Mine has the plastic valve, didn't think to measure it. Hammer Spring is the weak link it seems. If I turn reg up even another .25mm (using measurement of entire reg length when adjusting) the fps drops. Also turning down .25mm and fps drops. Never found a setting where backing off hammer spring gave a fps increase. But if I shim hammer spring with small washers I can get more out of it.

I've used #10 washers to shim, they are about 1mm thick so about 1 turn on the hammer spring. Coke can shims are about 0.1 mm thick. I got my P35-25 up over 800 fps with 34 grain but it might not be there next time I tried it. If the hammer doesn't open the valve fully the velocity will be way low, like 100 fps. Turning the reg down will allow the valve to be opened and get you back close.

The P35X spring uses 1.3mm thick wire instead of the P35 and bullshark 1.2mm. It thus will support higher reg pressure but at some point the plastic poppet will probably fail.
