N/A Slug Life - A Thread Dedicated to Showing and Discussing PCP Slug Guns

Watching this thread. My new .25 EQ will be slug tuned. First day back from the hospital, so I'm behind. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet.

After spending 4-5 years of "trying" to get pellet guns to shoot slugs I decided to keep my pellet guns pellets and my slugs guns slugs. I have two dedicated slug rifles. My max range is 100 yards, but both of these have shown to produce MOA groups - not all the time but enough for me to be happy.

1) Huben K1 in .25. I shoot the 51gr Altaros slugs @ 895 fps.

2) Mora in .25. I shoot the 66gr Altaros Kings @ 895-900fps.

I absolutely love testing and shooting slugs, especially .25, as some of you here on AGN remember. Slugs, barrels and airguns have improved leaps and bounds, especially over the last 3-4 years! And... There's a lot more cool stuff coming in the next year! It's a great time to be a slug shooter!

Here are my favorite slug airguns. All exceptionally precise to at least 275yds, the M3 to 350yds and the Skout/Corbin combo to over 400yds! I'd call 8/10 on ground squirrels at 405yds pretty damn precise and capable!

1. Skout Epoch .25, custom 35" slug barrel, Corbin 48.8gr at 990fps.

2. FX Impact MK2 .25, prototype 1:16" slug barrel, Zan 37gr at 995fps.

3. FX Impact, 700mm, M3 .22, 1:16" slug barrel, Zan 30.5gr (.218") at 1040fps or Altaros 32gr at 940fps.

4. RAW HM1000x .25 in a MPA chassis, LW 1:24" barrel, Varmint Knocker 32.8gr at 975fps or Zan 33gr at 980fps.

5. Huben GK1 .22 pistol, not a traditional slug airgun but it shoots lightweight Zan 20gr or ARG 21gr slugs exceptionally well inside 50yds!

Wow I like your set up it totally kicks grass I found a Texan at my favorite pawn shop but the caliber is not written on it , or the model name.? It's for $715 , and the pawn broker said make a down payment , and I'll give you 10 months to pay it off. It's very long , so I don't think its a condor. The muzzle brake more than a 1" around.

I’ve been eyeballing that Skout for awhile. I too really like .25 cal and that Skout looks incredible. Have you tried any of the altaros slugs out of it?

My most consistently-accurate airgun (of many hundreds I've owned) is the latest evolution of my original Mac-1 QB77 Deluxe that cost $159 brand-new thirty years ago; now known (by me) as The Most Improbable Slug Shooter On Earth. And although all that remains of the original QB77 Deluxe is the BARREL and bolt-action, the custom-stocked QB/Gauntlet hybrid consistently averages less than 1.20" five-shot groups at 100 yards with 16 and 20 grain H&N slugs at 28-30 foot pounds.

Although I've had a (very) few air rifles that once or twice averaged better groups, none did so with such unerring REGULARITY as QB/G. A brief history-

I had the stock (above) custom built to my design by an old gunsmith in Fort Worth in the late 1970s for a Crosman 160. The QBs being a(typical) Chinese rip-off of the Crosman 160, some thirty years later the stock found its roundabout way to the QB77; that (by then) had captured a Field Target National Champion title in a different, AR2078 stock.

Last Christmas a buddy gifted me an Umarex Gauntlet; the Gauntlet being another, this time Chinese/American conspiracy rip-off of the Crosman 160. The Gauntlet guts, and a Ninja Flex adjustable regulator, allowed a long-sought power boost way beyond the 20 foot pounds I'd been seeking for decades.

Having never achieved decent accuracy with any slug in any airgun, for some inexplicable reason I decided to make a last-ditch effort to do so by trying slugs in QB/G. To my amazement she achieved what none others could- aforementioned CONSISTENT five-shot group-size averages under 1.20" center-to-center... consistent as clockwork. Many groups go under an inch, some under 3/4"; none over 1.4".

Five shots at 100 yards-

Outstanding!

My new (to me) slug gun. .22 Edgun r3 long. Shoots Daystate Howlers, 20.3gr or equivalent NSA and .22 FX Hybrids (22gr) @ 950fps(I believe) View attachment 569696with superb accuracy & distance. Between Derrick Wall (zx10wall) & Mike Bricker (Centercut) working their magic on setting this thing up there's absolutely NOTHING to complain about. 161 yard kill is my best with it so far. I expect it will only get better.
Gotta love those single shot Edguns. 👍

It's been a hell of a journey..., but wouldn't part with it. Loves Corbin 35.5 rbt .218. With the constant swirling winds here, I'm no longer even slightly interested in pellets. Does what I expect out of it.View attachment 570764
Same bro. I bought my gun specifically to shoot slugs because of the swirling winds around here.

Sure with lots of patience you could make it work with pellets, I'm not that guy so call me what you will. It's a better tool for the job.
Keep it simple right? This is actually my first PCP so it’s been quite the adventure. I’ve made a few mistakes but my experience has been amazing so far. When one of those slugs lands at 75y+ it brings a smile to my face every time.

I’ve got a few that shoot my own cast as part of the fun is to get bullets sized to the correct diameter. First is an Evanix K550 ( bottle fed AR6 ) did some valve work and added some weight to the non typical hammer assembly. It’s still using the Evanix 1:15 barrel. This one likes the NOE 39 grain bullets sized to .223 and RWS bullets from Krale.Good for 100 FPE Next is a converted Winchester 70-35 ( bottom in second pic) that I converted to .257. The only slug this one shoots is an Arsenal mold 257420. It’s got a 1:14 TJ’s barrel at 26” . Furthest I’ve shot was 200 yards and a 5 shot group was under two inches.Good for 140 FPE Last is a converted Disco , same 1:14 TJ’s barrel in 28” length. Has a Cothran valve and loves the NOE 257388 mold . Only downside is the declining shot string from the small reservoir. Good for 180 FPE

You’ll notice none are regulated guns and punch at a much higher power your average .
