Greetings All,

I recently purchased a .22 cal Umarex Zelos for my grandson. I think I have a handle on which scope I want to buy but do not have the compressor/SCBA tank figured out.

My thought was to buy a SCBA tank and a compressor to fill up the tank. Also, I'm looking at buying smaller tank for portability.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have a Yong Heng I use to fill a 45 minute (66 cubic foot) SCBA tank. I usually fill my guns from it. But I recently bought a GX CS2 and I think it would be a great way to give your grandson air for his gun. I got the "normal" CS2 which has a 120 to 12V transformer to power it plus battery clips so you can use your vehicle to run it. I added a 18V to 12V step down converter plus a battery dock for the 18V Milwaukee batteries I have. The simpler way to go would be to buy the battery powered CS2. It comes with a battery and a charger for it. So you can use it at home, at the range or where ever you are. Makita batteries apparently work if you want extras. Filling his gun will take less than 5 minutes. I fill magazines while I'm waiting.

If you want something with more capability a GX CS4 would fill a tank like I use, just more slowly. It is also capable of being powered by 120V or vehicles. I think you could rig up something for tool batteries but GX doesn't offer one that I've seen. So you could fill a bottle with the CS4 but also take it with you in case the bottle runs out of air. There is also amore powerful CS5. It is pretty heavy and not set up to be powered by a car. But to fill bottles or a gun when you are at home.

@jde727831 - Welcome to Airgun Nation! The Zelos is quite the shooter right out of the box. My friend has the hammer spring turned down and the regulator set at the lowest setting 1100 PSI? I think. With that setup he is getting about 100 shots per fill. This gets you a lot of pew for your dollar and will hit steel targets with authority.

Reactive steel targets or soup cans make the best targets. Paper is good for zeroing, after that I want stuff to wiggle and make noise when I shoot it. Much more fun!

I also suggest getting a small GX compressor and filling the rifle directly. Best ROI without digging too deep of a hole. Quite a few members purchased their GX compressor through Amazon or Walmart to get a 1 year warranty. This seems like a great idea.

Youtube is your friend. Figure out what compressor model fits your needs and start watching review videos. Auto Stop is a Must Have.

This is the model that I have. Works great and will fill the Zelos very easily.

Starting out it may be wise to consider a cheap direct fill compressor to fill the rifle. Think of this compressor as disposable. Or you may consider getting a SCBA tank and buying fills at a dive shop. I’m thinking ahead here. It’s not uncommon for children to be very enthusiastic in the beginning of owning a new toy or participating in a new activity only to lose interest in the weeks following. If it’s something either of you enjoy then you will have had time to research compressors to know which one might best suit your situation.

How old is your grandson?
