Hawke Sidewinder FFP 4-16x50 parallax issue?

I’m not sure what is actually going on but I took out as much reticle movement as possible. Lets say I shoot 2 mags out of the Ghost and they hit poa exactly, then I load 3rd and then poi is 1/8-1/4” up and left, as soon as I adjust the turrets it hits perfect to poa again. Load the 4th and it’s off exactly the amount I dialed on the 3rd mag, adjust turret again, perfect poa hits again.

This order can be on any mag load, the key is me breaking my cheek weld to load a mag, but I have moved my check weld when it’s off and makes no difference, until I adjust the turrets. I never had this issue with my Athlon HERAS 2-12 SF on my Maverick. I may mount that to the Ghost.

Anyone had something like this happen? Suggestions? 20 yards for this test.

I’m not sure but it’s only thing that makes sense, the rilfe puts 5 shots is one hole most of the time. My TX200, you have to break cheek weld every time to cock and no issues. It’s like the reticle is not where you are aiming but the back and forth to the same settings is strange.

2 easy ways to check. First have someone else shoot it. Second try a different scope. Since I am not a PCP guy, never shot one, I don't know how fussy they are. I do know thr more your on the gun thr more likely you are to influence it. There is a reason why many benchrest shooters shoot free recoil or only touching the rifle with their trigger finger. It is hos I shoot off the bench. Even when I must hold the gun I keep my cheek off the stock. My guns have high scope mounts. First I would retorque base screws, 25 inch pounds, then ring to base screws, 25 in pounds , then ring screws 17 inch pounds. D on't forget, have you focused the scope properly. Set parallex to infinity then look at the sky or a blank wall and acjust the rear lens until cross hairs are black and sharp. Then look at your target and use parallex adjustment to focus on the target. Once all is sharp slightly move your head to be sure crosshairs stay still. If they don't it will require slightly tweaking the parallel adjustment one way or the other until the crosshairs stay still with slight head adjustment.Remember that in the world of scopes these are not high end and can be a bit fussy getting adjusted for parallel and focus, a bit trying at times.

Yes it’s in Seekins rings, 30 in/lbs base and 15 in/lbs rings. I double checked parallax and then put my Athalon on a piece of wood and adjusted parallax and got the same almost still reticle. I know you have had a “few” Hawke scopes and didn’t know if you ever ran into this? I guess I will mount up the Athlon Heras and give it a go.

@Jay308 - I have had a parallax issue with one of my Hawkes and sent it back. They replaced it for me. I just sent them another - both Airmax on SFP (parallax issue) and the other FFP - windage adjustment made did not move the reticle on the FFP at all. They are returning the FFP tomorrow. Have had no problem with them checking out my problem and sending another scope. Great customer service.

Thanks for the info. I mounted the Athlon, going to shoot tomorrow. If it’s consistent, I’ll box up the SW. Just a hard thing to troubleshoot.

The only problem I had was with the parallex freezing at one yardage with the Airmax which seems to be a problem with them from the feedback I recieved on here. My 2 sfp Sidewiinders have been flawless.

I shot with the Athlon but the windage didn’t move the poi until almost a full rotation, wtf. It’s not far from optical center either. No more cheap Chinese scopes for this guy.

I got it sighted in and I didn’t have any real shifts after 60 shots. I guess I’ll remount the SW and run the turrets from max to min and set in the middle and turn the parallax from max to min a few times and re-test the SW and then send it in, if it still acts up.

Success! After remount, I ran the turrets through their full range, reset to optical center using the manual, then re-sighted in. I also min-max the parallax knob 4 times. I had read a old post on AGN someone doing this and fixed their issue.

I didn’t get any shift after 60 shots, that wasn’t my fault. I can’t wait to do the 30 yard challenge with the Ghost, it shoots so tight.

The Sidewinder IQ is so much better than the Athlon Heras, I notice before but back to back is a amazing difference.

@Jay308 Interesting resolution to the issue with your Hawke Sidewinder. Can you link this thread with the thread that your referenced with the information that helped you remedy your issue? Please post a link to that thread in this one.

@Jay308 Do you think that you may have tightened your scope rings too tight in your mounting of your Athlon scope? Either way it’s good to read that you got things sorted out.

Ring torque is good 15 in/lbs, same torque driver that I use on my 2k+ scopes. I’ll probably send it in to Athlon for them to check. That can be a symptom of over tightened rings though.
