I thought I would put this here just for a laugh. Not a good day at the range.
I am trying to show the difference between a 250 ,500, 1000 and 2000 dollars guns for field target use.
My 2000 dollar gun is my prise possession. And I am upgrading the very nice scope it has to a better scope.
Illuminated reticle 34mm tube all that. But I need rings and side wheel and level. My 1000 gun is a Tx200 that is tuned and shoots at 12 ft lb. I used it for open WFTF and shot the nationals ten years ago.
That scope is a big 56mm 10-40x scope that cost 315 dollars.
So I swapped scopes and went out to the range to shoot 50 yard cards.
Just for groups what can go wrong?
Well first it rained all morning. So I did not go the the range till noon. The humidity was through the roof. The mosquitoes were swarming all around my face and legs and it was 100 degrees. Sweat running down my face before I even got my gun out.
Ok 50 yard target and take some test shots.
The scope will not rotate past 75 yards on the wheel and will not focus past 35 yards. Total blur at 50 yards. So my fancy scope is junk. I made ten shots for a group and hung up the PCP.
Then I took out the TX 200 with new scope. I was sighting it in a little last week. And shot a couple lanes of field target but could not really hit 50 yard targets well.
Today from the bench the gun was a hot mess.
Four inch shotgun pattern. Forget it. I switched to a sand bag and it was just as bad.
So I went to the sticks and bucket.
That made the groups go the 2 inch and then I finally found a position that was good. It was still bigger than a 1 inch group but with the bugs and heat I was done. Three shots went high left. And I put ten in the group. The three high left were when I pulled the trigger and the gun jumped left. Normally the gun is so stable I can watch the pellet fly into the target. Those three were something I was doing wrong. So I need to just start over with my testing after I practice some more with the TX and replace the 40 scope with a new Athlon Helos scope.
Tomorrow should be better.
