.30 AEA 50.5 - rumors or reality?

So, how many have heard rumors that the latest few batches of .30 AEA 50.5 pellets are “different” and don’t shoot as well as the ones that shot so well and were so hard to get last year?
I’ve heard that cavity sizes were different, cavity depths were different, weight spreads were different, and they just generally don’t shoot as well from most guns as they used to.
I compared all of mine and they look the same, but I haven’t bought any this year.

There must be some truth to the rumors as Saber Tactical has been holding back cases of them received last summer for their top shooters.
Does anyone have any solid knowledge on this topic they can share?

It appears any made after this production date are changed - in the spirit of JSB - if it works and it’s successful, change it. 🤔
If you don’t buy them 30 tins at a time, and get the actual box label, you’ll never know from the tin when yours were made.

I have heard conflicting stories from numerous shooters. The only actual fact I have is that ones made 8-10-2024 and earlier are the ones being “reserved” for ST team shooters.
I have heard cavity is deeper. I’ve heard cavity is shallower. I’ve heard cavity diameter is narrower. I’ve heard it wider.
I’ve heard if bottom of tin isn’t blank they are the newer “non good” ones.
I’ve heard the facts are known, but being kept confidential since who wants to buy the crap? If no one knows the facts they can all be sold despite quality issues.
Haven’t they learned this lesson from JSB. - if it’s not broke, don’t fix it!

I shoot the 45gr and not the 50gr AEA pellets and I am waiting for Utah to get their restock to fulfill my back order. I hope nothing has changed with them.
From what I can gather, the 45s are not changed. IMHO the 45s that I shot most of last year are as accurate if not more so than the 50s.

All I have are the newer version with the barcode on the bottom of the tin. I can't imagine any variant being more accurate than these are in my rifle. I'm sure others have had different experiences. I am also frustrated that the molds keep changing without any notice or tracking method. We need to purchase as much as we can from a certain lot when we find one that works well.

Well I think that one of the advantages of the AEA pellets was they didn’t change form or shape because of mold wear and having the need for many molds or Die’s to meet production numbers, this causing slight differences in the shape of the pellets. AEA numbers are lower and I believe they may only had one set of die’s or their tolerances are much tighter producing multiple die’s. Obviously the alloy composition is different than JSB and if your barrel likes this combination of shape, consistency and alloy then you have winner on your hands! So no room for these RUMORS🫣these pellets will be exactly the same. Right AEA… you listening…🤔

To be honest guy’s I’m not a real contender in the long range game I only shoot one 100yd event a yr. So when I don’t perform well I can’t blame the pellets! The real players such as Centercut the possible change in design or slight differences between lot numbers can mean a 1st place or third place!.
Now your practicing and run through your original lot and open up a new sleeve “same lot number” but they don’t shoot nearly as well, you have a big Comp. This weekend 😳 confidence level in the toilet, kinda sucks… and you don’t have the time to retune. Welcome to the world of JSB. I think many competitors are hoping that a manufacturer like AEA would change some of this with consistency.

About the middle of last year, you couldn't find any of the 50.5g AEA and the 45g were plentiful.
Since the beginning of the year, the 45g have been out of stock and the 50.5g are plentiful.
The airgun competition community is finicky on what pellets they like to use ... has to be a reason for the reversal in choice

So true. I was looking at them just a short while ago and was like WTH…all the 45 gr are gone. I thought it was the 50’s everyone wanted. Lol
