A Question About Compressor Batteries

Hello everyone. I hope you all are having a good day.
My local gun range just opened up some airguns range slots and I’m thinking of getting a membership at said range.
They do not have electrical hookups, so, I would have to fill my airguns via the battery on my truck.
TBH, I’m not crazy about doing that. I was looking at some 12 volt/100 mah rechargeable batteries from Amazon that are advertised as RV/trolling motor/etc. batteries.
Do you guys think a battery of this type would be able to power my compressor reliably?
I have a water cooled CS compressor if that helps.
Any ideas you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

A 100 ah lifepo4 with an integrated bms circuit should be able to fit the bill quite nicely I think. The nice part about lifepo4 is that it's dead at 12v so you aren't under volting your equipment to get the capacity of the battery.

I use a 50ah in an ammo can I built to power a 12v mini fridge and a power inverter for a pellet bbq and a ham radio when I'm out and about and have powered my 12v comp with it. They're typically 350w or so draw.

There's options with 18/20v power tool batteries too that I can elaborate on if you're interested.

I saw Amazon has a LiFEP04 12 volt, 300 mah, and 8000 deep cycles that is rechargeable.
It’s not too expensive.
Do you think something like that would work?
Thanks again.

@Putricio This airgunner has a compressor running off of lithium ion batteries. Maybe something that he shares may be of use to you.

300mah is not enough, that's less capacity than the battery in my scope for my impact.. 50 ah is even going to probably not be enough if you run it enough. I have 200 watts of flexible solar panels I bring with my battery box for long use times on my 50. If you got 100ah you could use that with a quality inverter to use as emergency power at home too.

Its always better to have more battery than you think you'll need. It lightens the workload on all components.

50 cal ammo can, 2x xt60 outputs, car 13v socket and USB outlet too. 50ah lifepo4 from Amazon. I stuck with xt60 because my Shoebox clone and many other devices I use were standardized on it.

I don't know what compressor you want to power but it is possible regardless. I created a thread about powering my GX CS2 with Milwaukee tool batteries. Works fine. I get around 6 gun fills per battery. It takes a battery dock and a step down converter. You can get both from Amazon. They have them for other brands of batteries too. So if you have some power tool batteries this is one possibility. The CS3 uses the same number of watts so a little 240W step down converter should work - as it does for me. The compressor is rated at 250W but the 240W converter is working. But the GX CS4 uses 350W so you will need a bigger step down converter. A 30 amp. They are available but cost a little more.

I have a 100 amp hour lithium battery in my little boat for the trolling motor. I've never tried running my CS2 on it but I don't see why it wouldn't. It's a lot bigger and heavier than the power tool batteries. It would last longer but I'd rather carry a tool battery or two.

I've even powered my Yong Heng from a battery including all it's extras. I used a big 1800W Milwaukee power supply. Supplies 120V. Weighs 50 lbs.

I’ll be using the GX compressor.
The one with the water pump (it’s already over 100 degrees in west Texas).
Thank you for your response.

Are you going to be running it on the firing line? If not, check with the range to make sure they're okay with you having your gun out of the case in the parking lot, or wherever else you're running the compressor.

This is why I got a tank, so I can bring the tank to the range and easily and quickly fill up on the firing line.
Per their rules I would have to sign in and let them know what I’m shooting. I bought a steel mesh-walled garden cart to meet the battery and compressor in. They said I could keep it behind me on my shooting lane.

It is not the same brand but it looks like the same battery I have for my trolling motor on my small V boat. It will have 14V at full charge or perhaps a little less and will be fully discharged when it reaches 12V. Cars provide about 14V when the motor is running so I don't see how it can hurt your compressor. I think it will work fine. Mine weighs about half what a lead acid battery weighs but it is still not light. A cart is a good idea. The compressor will not be as quiet as a bottle filling your gun but people in a range should be wearing hearing protection and may not even hear it.

You could also buy a Chinese bottle with fill set for about what that battery costs, however. That could be another way to go. The bottle will not give you 300 bar fills but works well for me to provide 250 bar fills. Fills are quicker and quieter with a bottle. Your GX CS4 is said to be able to fill up to a 6.8 litter bottle like I use.

Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar.
Thank you.
