Tariffs Explained - Pyramyd AIR Insyder

We raise the tariff on them and they raise it on us to balance it out. The consumer takes the hit. Not only that, the retail tax generated increases adding even more to the bottom line at the register.
2 words come to mind.... Greed and Laziness.
No Avator,
Financially Naive Policy making …. creating higher prices and reduce trade.
Consumers mostly EAT this cost. There’s a reason why tariffs deepened the Great Depression ….. this is basic Economics 101.

Yep, Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was actually the tipping point from a recession to the Depression.

I keep pointing out that broad based tariffs have never worked. Just look at the Brazilian economy. They have severely limited their economy with all of their tariffs and manufacturing requirements.

This has been the problem with the implementation of these tariffs. What is the end goal ? Just broad based tariffs in general or a negotiation tool toward better deals ? It has seemed both at times and completely unclear

Mercurial, petty and ignorant.
The problem is the person implementing them has no real appreciation of the effects. Ego driven and just pulling the levers of power to punish those he thinks have offended him in some way. Prime example the executive orders targeting law firms.

For the most part the effects are felt in the low and middle income sectors. The consumer class. Those that actually are the core of the economy.

The investor class are pretty much immune to the effects as they just move their money into devices that are protected from inflation or blue chips and wait for the market to settle.

Was going to buy a Harbor Freight (Bauer) Jointer that was $279 for the past two weeks. Was waiting for a 20% off coupon.
Today, was notified there was a 25% coupon deal ..... yeah:).

Unfortunately, HF raised the price on the jointer to $329 in the last few days - That's an 18% increase, likely from tariffs.

Buckle your seat belts ...............

Wait... I didn't think the tariffs were in place yet.. am I wrong? Have we imported stuff into the country that have tariffs applied yet? Are American retailers jacking up the prices on old stock prematurely? Is that even legal or is it considered gouging?
They've been in place. They just keep playing with the numbers as if no one gets affected.

Got it, thanks.
But that is exactly one of the reasons that broad based tariffs do not work. Domestic suppliers, regardless whether they are affected, will take advantage of the situation. Counting on consumers blaming the tariffs/government. Read some of the press releases, they quite often do not state their costs went up, only that they are raising prices because of tariffs.

And if tariffs go away prices will drop but, as gasoline prices demonstrate, only drop around 70-75% of the increase.

Yes, just ignore the corporations that actually have provided the capital and technology to China. Totally the fault of the government and the voters.

And how exactly is our economy destroyed?

Hint: 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights explains religion and government.
When our Liberal Gov policy OVER Tax and Regulate business there are force to go to a different state or county. Like I said I blame the voters and gov that create this anti-friendly business policy.

Hi there, it's the American companies like Apple exploiting Chinese workers due to almost none existent worker's rights in China. It takes $10 to make an iPhone, which sells for $1000. Apple keeps all the profits and keep the investors wealthy. If the same iPhone were to be made in the USA, it would cost around $3000.

Most manufacturing jobs of today is automated anyways, not going to create enough jobs for the American folks. With artificial intelligence on the horizon, more jobs will be replaced ... but new ones will be created.
Most liberals/Hollywood buy Apple products and they call themself champion advocate anti-slave wages. What a hypocrites.

All manufacturing jobs are worth save small or large. So does that excuse us from saving America manufacturing jobs....NO. Screw China

Point taken but that don't mean I have to sit in it. The one thing I have total control over is how I respond to things around me that are out of my control.
The saying goes... life is too short... that is unless you let it make you miserable... then it gets REALLY long.
Yes, a positive attitude is everything ........... I avoid drama and try to stick with the facts. Nothing like a good defense ...........
