FX FX Impact M4 Compact in .25 shooting Hybrids

Have any of you tried sizing them down at all or just shooting the factory sizes? After shooting thousands of solid projectiles of different weights and lengths , I’ve found sizing makes a much bigger difference in accuracy than speed.
Yes, I always test them in .250 and .249 before moving on. Immediate speed jump in .249 but that’s about it. Now I have no problem getting a Hybrid to do pretty good out of a Superior standard .25 600mm at 935fps.

The reason I still have the 500mm Superior .25 lying around is because it’s the best damn .25 hunting pellet shooter I think I ever owned. I hunted squirrel with it for one season and anything out to 100 yards was dead. But twice that season I ran into coyotes. I boiler roomed both of them with a pellet but prefer to do it with a slug.

When you give up on getting that .25 compact to shoot slugs send me a PM. I’ll give you the Dr. Death pellet recipe for squirrels and hopefully your eternal love and happiness with that gun.

Sizing by means of pushing the slugs through a die. I use NOE sizing dies. The equipment to do the sizing is fairly inexpensive. A Lee hand press and a few dies will usually set you back a couple hundred dollars. The process is time consuming but once you get dialed in worth every penny. I’ve had poor performing hand cast slugs go from 3 plus inches at 50 yards down to less than 1/2 inch at the same yardage.

Your first step should be to slug your barrel and see what size it is. Lots of good info out there on that subject. I typically start at bore diameter then size down .0001 “and not much more than.0005” under size until I find the sweet spot. This works for pellets also.
Wow. That's quiet a bit of additional work to do to be honest. I was hoping for out of the box ready slugs... lol

That sounds like a plan. I have quiet a few slugs coming in today. I'll be testing them from 130bar to 150bar with the heavy liner than the STX superior liner. I have read that the Hybrids do well in the superior liner... but was recommended by Utah Airgun to use a heavy. I'll put the results here when I have them... it may even be a few weeks since I have 4 kids... 3 of them between the age of new born and 3 years old... lol

Have two .25 cal. FX Impact M4, FX Wildcat M3 BT Both Compacts. Hybrids, Zan's, H&N's didn't work for me. I just use NSA 26.8, and NSA 29 gr. dished. Manly shooting Prairie dogs 60-140 yards. Both with reg set at 120 psi 930 FPS. Both were stock 1:24 liners. Just put a 1:16 in the Impact. Seems to have made some difference.

Interesting find. I got my new batch of Hybrids in. I have not changed my tune since my original posting. After reading some slug threads, I decided to "clean" the hybrids. By clean, dump the hybrids on to a cloth. Make sure all the loose lead is not on the slug, then putting the back end and front end of the slug on the cloth and rotating them removing any loose lead.

After doing this, with a clean barrel, I seasoned the barrel then with 3 shots then did 3 shot groups. (SG = Shot group) I also shot from left to right in chronological order. I did shoot the Hybrids out of the box, without any cleaning at the end to see my results.

Groups definitely tightened up a bit after cleaning. I guess all the loose debris is not good for the slug. I really wish the Hybrids were clean and debris free from factory. Maybe they need to renegotiate their contract with rmrbullets (SLAP slugs) because $15 for 100 slugs that still needs cleaning and lube is ridiculous. I will continue my testing. I have H&N slugs to test out. I also have NSA slugs coming in but I may leave that testing out since this thread is focused on FX Hybrids.

I found out years ago that when you have a good slug gun, you don’t have to wash them or cast any other spells to get them to shoot. But I’m not saying washing is a bad thing. When I sit down for testing and know there is going to be some volume, I start with washed slugs. But after all is said and done and the gun gets its stamp of approval, I rarely wash the slugs I feed it in the future. Always lube.

New finding. I shot some H&N Slugs and it's doing a lot better than the Hybrids out of the tin without any cleaning or additional lubing. I'm shooting the H&N 36gr and 34gr at around 850 fps, same tune as shooting the hybrids at 950-955 fps at the same 12 yrd distance. Looks like I'll be switching to the H&N slugs. I really did want the Hybrids to work because of the big hollow cavity. Again, SG = Shot group.
