Diana Diana 34 EMS Gas Piston Installation

This morning I pulled the spring out of my Diana 34 EMS and installed the gas piston/ram/spring (you choose).

The spring came out with very little preload but the piston was a bit of a challenge.

Where I don't have a spring compressor, I used a 5/4" plank and cammed into place in using the edge of my bench overhang and my body weight pressing on the vertical barreled action.

Once I figured it out it worked pretty slick and I didn't have to remove the barrel. All that considering the instructions were only in German!

Once back together I ran outside to give it a whirl and it's running much smoother, maybe a bit louder and super accurate.

I'll get some chronograph data together soon but it's really liking the JSB 10.34 pellets.

I've attached some pics for your viewing pleasure.

More to follow, as they used to say don't touch that dial!

Good morning,

The cocking effort seems maybe a bit more stout than the spring but it's entirely manageable and you can still cock it without the break barrel springer barrel slap.

Please note that should you choose to take on this project I would highly recommend that you have a spring compressor. The spring comes out with minimal preload but the gas spring is extremely stout.

Bullseyesouth.com can get you the Diana 34 EMS parts. They typically don't sell parts only those for the EMS.

Oh yeah, it just devours NECO wafer candies at 30 yards!

That's pretty impressive.
I'm loving my 34 EMS. I couldn't decide between the Legion and the wood. I ended up with the wood in 22. and it likes the 10.34's too.
Did you dislike the spring that much or were you just curious about the Ram? And is it that different?

Good morning,
I also have a Lawrence of Arabia .177 springer and the previous owner had changed the spring guide.
This one is very smooth and consistent.
I picked up the Legion from bullseyesouth.com on a great sale but it felt dry and a bit buzzy so I thought I'd try the ram.
The ram is smoother and I feel that I'm getting a quicker pulse and a more solid audible crack on firing.
I've got some more work to do with it, but the sights made the most
significant improvement.
The fiber optic sights provided with it are OK for coarse work but the premium sites and the Williams micrometer rear really made things happen.
I love the open sights because it keeps me challenged, so if you can upgrade the sights or put on a good scope and you'll have
one fantastic rifle there!
Beware of the NECCO wafers, they're addictive, and tasty!
Happy shooting!!
