Crazy price of used guns

Benjamin Marauder 25cal with synthetic stock . Where you from?
I’m in imperial, I do like Benji’s and have several of them. But not wanting another .25. You post it and put a decent price on it , it will probably sell quick. By then I might change my mind, ha. You might want to look into a Prod. Pistol Marauder. And put a stock on it. Light, should be easy to hand pump and whisper quiet. I get 3 mags per fill out of mine. There is also the 3622 single shot pcp, or if really wanting a pumper then a 362.
You can find them all here. https://www.airgunrevisions.com/?s=362 .

My brain still thinks I’m 18 it’s the rest of me that’s not so obliging! Are you from my generation black dog?
68 and until I fully retired 2 years ago felt relatively young, healthy and tough. It was time to go but not for my mind.
Yes hobbies like this one are used to take up some brain space but….. ahh there’s always that but

I got a 250 dollar gun I worked on with some extra parts I bought , For sale 600 dollars !!!! You got a used 250 dollars gun , Maybe worth 175 dollars at the most, Its used , No warranty or nothing as is,,, It really makes me laugh,,, Oh well maybe its just me,
Maybe they added 350 dollars in parts , Well them parts are now used they are not new, Maybe they are adding labor ?
I just find it very funny when I see some of these adds...

I use a sliding scale. Got a like new model unmodified that is no longer the latest generation? 50% of list seems reasonable. Is it the latest generation NIB and not in stock at the retailers right now - maybe 80-100% of list.

Got a high end gun that involves long lead times or is NLA? 80% maybe more. Have targets or good competition results with it? Fresh from a reputable tuner? Those can add some value too.

If you’re accuracy focused like me, you’ll probably agree with the idea to never sell your most accurate rifle. So when I see nice guns for sale used I always measure the possibility that it’s moving along because it’s below average accuracy. I’m not saying that used guns are less accurate- not exactly - but I think it certainly isn’t helpful unless the seller is proving it to be an accurate copy.

Got a highly modified project gun that is kind of unique? Unless buyers are looking for that particular outcome I’d bet 50% of list and zero adder for the work that went into it.

I try to think like a buyer. What are the risks and guarantees here? If I spend more and buy new with warranty what would that look like? Then I price with that and my urgency to close a sale.

If that was the case no one would buy used airguns. Have bought a ton of used guns and never had a inaccurate one. There is no guarantee when buying anything used.

I was curious as to what folks feel a "good discount" from the new list should be on a gun. I buy and sell (buy about 50% more than sell) a LOT, and I am, well, let's say VERY impulsive when something new and shiny launches, I am usually one of the first in line with the AMEX out and a smile on my face. I also tend to over buy certain brands/models (RAW, older FX, Kalibergun, and others), so I end up with multiples of the same gun, and when I see the boxes piling up, I tend to realize I do not need 3 HM100x.22, so I re-list one or two.

I feel like I am almost a bit too low on used guns, as once I purchase something, I just count that money as gone, when I sell, well, that is just a bit extra to recycle into something else and tend to get multiple responses in the first few minutes and a sale happens quckily.

New is where I struggle. I have a new Evol (newest with SUB MOA barrel, etc.) posted at roughly 20% of a discount from new. I by no means am married to that price, but would rather price it to sell in the first few days than have it linger. I get that not everyone is a buyer for every gun posted, but feel with what I buy new (high-end from reputable sellers, AoA, Utah, etc) that most members would see them as a good value. Some sell in 5 minutes, some sit for months, or never sell, so is that more just that folks want certain brands or models, or should things be priced at more of a discount off the bat to get more traction?

I am into the Evol I have listed for roughly 2800.00. Have it listed for 2300, would I sell for 1000.00, no, would I sell for 1950.00, most likely. I also know guys like to negotiate and have had more than one member get mad when I do not, so now I have built in a bit of a buffer to allow for some back and forth.

Long post for a simple question, I guess. What is the discount form list you feel is fair as a starting point when selling a new gun in the classifieds? Do you negotiate or just list it for what is a fair price?
If it’s new in an unopened box, it’s new. No warranty, but new.
It’s another story if it’s been opened and played with.
Still, I tend to post with a buffer built-in because I know that I like to haggle

Another thing I would like to touch on , and we should all practice this.

Don't buy the used guns that don't have a well thought out ad. Seller wants to just post a picture and a price ? Screw that, find someone who is detailed in their for sale ad. Someone who clearly takes passion in the product they are selling, that means they also probably took passion in caring for it. The more informative , the better.
