Crazy price of used guns

The used gun market is always a gamble. And that’s why used is always so much discounted to new.

As stated above there are very few Motorheads out here. However what there is an abundance of is pricks trying to rip off honest people. This is why most used guns sell for 1/2 new, the buyer is assuming all the risk.

Sure it’s a great deal, ya it looks good in the picture, then it shows up in the box looking like it came out Godzilla’s asshole. And that is why buying and selling is a game of loss, I can for sure say that I have lost way more money in this game in the search for the “next best thing”

Truth is, if you can be happy with what you got your going to be much better off
You aren’t wrong. There was someone here just the other day that posted with pics a used maverick they bought from A of A. It was rough and to be honest I’m shocked A of A even sold it. He had to clean it up quite a bit and do work on it. I would have sent it back as I remember it on their site and it wasn’t even priced that great in my opinion. Then he edited everything including pics out. Really really weird. Almost like not wanting to bash a major retailer. Something I don’t understand. Now I’ve had one used experience with them and it was awesome so nothing bad to say but the gun was listed as new in box condition. I can definitely say I will buy nothing from them that isn’t that or excellent after reading that post.

The catch-22 of AGN. If you want to sell on AGN you need to have sold a bunch of items on A

Part of the game so every one is as safe as possible you need to make a reputacion and it takes time , must of the other fourums you have 90% chances to get burned.. my experience I have got burned from AOA 2 times and not a single time here ..

2 times AOA has burned me up in the used section, and you know as you take the first few shots is impossible that the gun they sent you could have done those groups the first one at the 6th shot It degases on my cheek , is absolutely ridiculous that having a repair center n they send the used guns in such a bad condition..

yup. i think it makes sense to have a positive seller/buyer review for people to want to make a deal with someone. scammers don’t care until they have someone knocking at their door or worse.
There are tools out there like Clear that could easily resolve the question without any arcane 10 post/10 day waiting. While the 10/10 rule has the effect of eliminating the immediate scammer posts it really is just a simplistic band-aid.

Basically if you want to sell, you need to have supplied verified ID. Immediate authorization and significantly more secure. Whether it is cost prohibitive to implement something like Clear i haven't a clue.

Or everyone just uses PayPal.

That gun was sold as a parts gun, when the member who bought it got it, it still shot great. He didn't have the greatest of expectations for it, and took a gamble on it. It was just incredibly dirty, and he's replaced a few seals and is replacing regs. But essentially he got a maverick for under $800 that runs as it should.

But, to your credit, AOA does not touch used airguns. From what I have seen, it seems they take the sellers word for it, receive the gun and list them.

Ok it wasn’t the one I saw listed then. It was like 11 or 1200 dollars. Listed as VG condition.

" they take the sellers word for it, receive the gun and list them." just like at the show and Face to face same description . i have bought 2 rifle that shot great in a test at the point of sale and got home and on the 5th or so shot the gun broke . You are buying used , get over it !
I have faith that what both sellers believed what they told me that this gun shoots great at the time they sold it to me . Any mechanical item can break at any time .

I check here before looking at new guns. If a gun is listed by an active, known, trusted member i'll prefer it over a new gun which might not win the barrel or function lottery. I tend not to care about warranties, I don't have the patience to send a gun in and wait, I paid a premium for a working gun. I'm also mechanically inclined and will figure it out on my own. I've gotten 5 guns on here in the last 8 months, They've all been fantastic shooters. I was told by the member " It shoots this great, it's tuned for this" and 5/5 were exactly as I was told.

^^^^^ absolutely^^^^^^
I've noticed a trend that a person buys a perfectly functioning, airtight, accurate gun... then take it apart "just to make sure everything is in order" and encounter a leak or issue POST reassembly and pressurization, then want to go off that they were sold a "bad gun".
there are 2 times i will take a gun apart... 1. Encountering a problem which requires disassembly to replace or repair. 2. Installing parts/upgrades. A high pressure system which is functional, when depressurized rapidly, and reassembled, then repressurized always runs the risk of an oring popping or something going off the rails. the urge to tinker is strong, but, fixing something that isn't broken is often a good way to break a gun. This is not the sellers fault.

Mint condition=20%off.
Used=30% or more off.
That is my way of thinking anyway.
Shipping=negotiable
Agree entirely. Even if the gun is NIB, you’re not a retailer with a warranty and I’m taking a risk when I deal with you. You might rip me off and send me nothing. I might find the NIB rifle is defective and that’s why you didn’t want it.

We pay a premium when we buy from AOA, Pyramyd or any of the other retailers because they have return policies and a reputation that they care about maintaining, so unless you’re that rare individual with 50+ good reviews and a reputation as a first rate tuner, your used gun is worth considerably less than new.

I see a lot of retail prices for used guns and figure they're not too serious about selling. When I do find something for a good price I realize not enough posts to PM and not familiar with the process.

Does everyone Paypal the funds first and trust the seller ships the gun? Most of the sellers are probably honest but seems kinda risky for the buyer.
Depends on the price and the person. If someone has a mountain of good reviews and has been here for six years then I assume he is trustworthy.

If someone is selling something for $150 or less but doesn’t have any reviews then I’ll just take the chance and hope I don’t get ripped off.

If they’re selling a $1000 gun and have no reviews and 11 posts then they better live nearby so that we can meet up in person.

i look at their review dates and the people who wrote the reviews. if the number of review are low, the dates are within a month, and reviewers are unknown newbies in the forum, im weary.
if the reviewers are active members that are generally known in our community, i’m willing to take a risk.

the buyers in the sellers reviews also play a role in my decision making.

So i guess I’m wasting my time here! I’m new at this ,and really just want downsize to a light pump gun to pick off squirrels I’m 66 and have a hard time with the weight of my pcp. And pumping it up is an all day affair! As a kid I owned a sheradin pump,so I should have bought a pump to start.

I've sold here after only being a member for a couple short weeks. Forums are not just for buying and selling. Matter of fact, the classifieds are just one of the perks of joining a forum. The main reason is to be a place where enthusiasts can gather to share knowledge and experience.... and maybe make a friend or 2 on the way.
Through your interactions and contributions folks can get a feel for your integrity and honesty. I must admit... I would not even consider making a transaction with an individual coming in the door wanting to buy or sell. Some are sneaky too.. I've seen them come in and ask how much they should value a certain airgun related item for just hoping someone will show interest and skirting the rules of the classifieds.

Ask yourself... would you prefer wasting a little time or wasting your money?

If you put it in the classifieds with good pictures and accept standard PayPal you are probably okay. If you only accept the cash equivalent apps like Venmo or PayPal Friends and Family then you might have trust issues.
