sad to see another farm and farm life go.. we had to sell the farm in 2020.. several years of pests eating over half the hay crop and taking down the fencing every day, which let out the cows.. was just too much.. lost 59% first cutting and all the second cutting.. elk are nice and pretty looking up on the hill.. 6 wasn't a deal they were happy to stay out..then 12 then 24 and so on ..no hunting cows just the bulls.. so last count was over 89 and growing fast..
my health went down too in 2016 and my thyroid quit, and apparently I was one of the very rare few that are allergic to the thyroid replacement meds.. doctors tried every brand, every size dose and finally the emergency room doctor said please don't ever try another one again.. even tried IV levothyroxine because they thought it might be fillers.. terrified the poor nurse because of course my throat swelled shut. slammed in IV benadryl and she was terrified my eyes rolled back and I was barely breathing but told her calm down it's ok whatever happens..came back with ephedrine and then after awhile something else..
OSHU tested TSH 40 and said I had 6 months.. it went all the way to TSH 95.. then dropped down over a long time.. then went hyper thyroid and then back.. currently closer to normal then it's been since 2016.. I think I'm quite a bit past the 6 months OSHU gave me, and I survived cancer since then and still am cancer free after the surgery.. so it's all good..
just really miss the farm life.. grew and put up 300 tons of hay and likely around the same amount of custom hay . plus built hydraulic sliding axle tilt trailer in the farm shop for nut harvesters.. about 4 per winter.. and 80 head of feeder cows..

hopefully you can make up for it with hobbies.. and hopefully you will be ok for income..
take it from me, it's very hard to survive on disability and SSI.. and we go to the food bank every week, plus grow a big garden every summer.. I'm slightly worried about the garden though because our state is cracking down on small farms if you don't have water rights.. we don't, we have well water and use mulch and drip irrigation but the size of our garden is close to the same size they are cracking down on small farms.. but we don't sell a single thing.. might give a dozen ears of corn once a year to the neighbor but we literally preserve and eat it all.. still eating potatoes from last summer.. they do the checking by ariel photography so we might get flagged and warned but since we don't sell anything and eat it for survival I hope they have consideration..
