New items always demand a premium

I was hoping my Physicians Assistant son would buy one for his aging father’s 80th birthday…
No luck.
He is going on a cruise.
Note: I didn’t get one of those either.

I jumped off the cliff and bought a Impact M3 at the pinnacle of popularity.

In the long run, there will be a better one next year, and a corvette will be way more fun.

Get a notos, and 10,000 pellets and still have a down payment on a C8

Significant price jump I would say. None of the Black Wolves were over $4k and now the 28" Chassis is $4100. Can't recall what the price was but I am thinking a $2-300 jump across the entire line-up.
But AoA also jumped the price of the Mora and if you go to Tony's site they are still the regular price.

So that leaves me asking what's up over at AoA, maybe.

I've bought a few pricey airguns in the past few years, but I have never and will never spend over $4K on a chunk of metal that spits lead bits. Yeah - that makes me sound cranky - but the prices are hitting redunk-a-dunk levels. For that price go buy a Thomas - I would.

I hit that when they started asking $1.5K new. Nope, no non competition pellet gun is worth that as far as I am concerned. Especially if, like me, you enjoy modifying the rifles. The added costs there add up quickly. Taking $500 used bargain and doubling (or more) the actual cost.

Then there is the must have "this years model" of incremental upgrade. Last year it was $3,000 this year it is $4,000. And what are you getting for another $1,000? Last year's model with a few tweaks.

Daystate did this just a short time ago. Upping several flagship models 100 bucks when no one else did. They are the Gucci of the hobby for sure. Just look how expensive their accessories are in comparison to others.

Yeah, $800 for a barrel, and you still need to buy the mags that, and probe. An easy extra $300

I absolutely never look at anything labeled Daystate.. the couple I got curious about I found out had electronic triggers, digital display and well you can get programming updates..
no I want a real rifle, not mixed up with a stupid computer..they might be the absolute best thing in the world but to me that sounds like a recipe for trouble..
I'm old ok I get it.. but even cars and trucks were so much better without the computers.. my stupid F-150 shuts off the engine at each stop light and they were so determined to force up to use it, when you push the button that turns off the auto start/stop it automatically turns itself back on next time you start the truck..

At those prices. The next level will be PCPs that send by themselves with pre selected paramters. The few who can afford it would have guns that send at the optimal time. And get the bestest possible groups. Human interaction not necessary. Simply get a notice that your PCP just sent a shot….

Or maybe the market will correct them at some point, either way, not a good look IMO.

I don't sing FX praises very often, but at least they have managed to keep themselves in the $2K range. I agree with the other statement - Daystate is and will price themselves out of the market.

I think it has to do with England. Air Arms prices have been going through the roof also. England's politics/economy might be pricing their manufacturers right out of the game.

Ghost just went up $200 in price. It is $2500 now. Pretty crazy considering they were on sale for $1800 a few months ago.

It isn't just Daystate. The Vixen 2 just jumped up $600 over the price of the Vixen. Vixen=$1100. Vixen 2=$1750. Do you think the gun will be $600 better?

Wow, I recall the price increases around '20 or '21 when a whole bunch more guns seemed to hop up to or over the $2k mark. And I thought that things were really getting expensive.

Now you have to scroll through almost 3 full pages of AoA's new gun PCP inventory before you get under $3k!

Looks like the private used market is going to get viewed a lot harder by buyers who can no longer justify or afford brand new.

I recall some article discussing one of the big issues with the Delta Wolf launch (besides some actual gun issues) was the COVID period launch time. The gist being that it was not the best time to have launched a premium product which was also pretty revolutionary, and that is part of the reason that DW sales were so soft.

Although for different reasons, it looks to me like the launch of the Black Wolf is going to end up in softer than expected sales as well. Sure, folks will still buy them if they need/want/have-to-have the latest. But at new pricing that pool of folks just decreased.

Now more people are going to wait to see manufacturer or dealer discounting before buying. But discounts and sales may be fewer and farther between. One already sees that AoA doesn't seem to be stocking as broad an inventory as they used to. Now many more guns are essentially special ordered. Lower costs to the business, less risk of ordering multiples of the 'wrong' (slow selling) configuration, and less need to clear slow moving inventory through discounting.
