Most fpe from my Avenger .25cal slugs

I'm making my .25cal Avenger into my dedicated slug gun. I'm going to be using my 38.5 gr NSA slugs. But I can't seem to get the right tune. I'm all over the reg and HS. I've tried all kinds of settings and only get max of 677 fps at 39 fpe. I need some advise before I re- finance my house to pay for all these wasted slugs
NSA slugs are a little harder lead alloy fwiw. My guns that have a tighter pellet choke didn't like them. Switching to a slug liner with less choke on my fx made it love them. Do you have .250 or .254?

Looking at the avenger specs its rated as a 45 fpe gun in 25. You're not too far off from 725 fps to get that 45 lb ft. Maybe lightly silicone lube a few slugs and shoot a group over the chrono and see if it helps or hurts accuracy or velocity? Maybe

If it's got a trajectory you can deal with, ive found I wasted my time and made guns less enjoyable chasing minimal velocity or energy gains if that makes you feel any better. I turned my slug shooter down 200 fps to avoid going transonic in certain weather. How far would you like to shoot?

When I had my impact turned up as far as I could for a similar weight slug, it wasn't fun anymore and not nearly as precise. My mrod is a similar story. Tight choke, similar speeds to you and not enough accuracy for me....also 25 cal but the slugs were 35 grains at the time. Heavy jsb pellets (i call them low bc slugs) were the remedy

you might wanna rethink the weight, unless you're trying to shoot them sub 800fps.
I think you might want to try shooting something in 26-30gr range.

It's a chocked barrel, NSA 26.8-grain slugs and JSB KnockOut 33.5-grain slugs, but testing different weights will help determine the best match for your specific setup.
  • Since the newer Avenger barrels are choked, slug fit matters. If the slug is too tight, it can cause excessive drag, lowering velocity.
  • Try polishing the barrel or testing slightly smaller diameter slugs to see if it improves performance, you will need a chronograph.

Im willing to bet that the heavy jsb pellet would be the candidate to get you the paper numbers. Minimal bearing surface touching the bore and significantly less metal to be resized by the choke. Maybe even 26 hades or regular kings. 46 fpe is pellet territory. I've been shooting my short choked 25 cal 115 yards with 26 grain pellets at 860 fps (just shy of 43 fpe) it's still the 2nd most powerful airgun I own, the first being a 22.
