RTI Tell me about the original Prophet Performance

I liked it as an inexpensive and excellent shooter, but I am not a fan of the layout.

I addressed several of your questions.

It had a worse reg than any Fx I’ve owned, and had to replace it with a Huma due to the 20bar reg creep. That being said, I could shoot off the overage creep and be ok for the session. The Huma was more consistent though, but took longer to fill.

Side lever wasn’t wobbly but was more awkward and required more effort than I am used to and could only be on the left side. I wasn’t a fan of the left side. Also, I did have an issue where the bolt didn’t close once (never happened with any other rifle) and when I fired crap went up in my face and my ear was ringing for a while).

That leads me into the mag in your face. Not a fan of this at all. The disaster above was scary. I was able to put on a 3D printed cheek riser to make the rifle more comfortable, but with the mag right there, I couldn’t wear glasses without them hitting the mag. (Everyone keeps saying setup further back, but the length of pull isn’t adjustable and you only have so much room to set up back there.)

Excellent shooter, but I won’t go back due to the mag placement.

I'd be buying the Prophet 25 for pellets only for long distance. I'd really like to have the 22LR, but can't find a deal on one yet, so the 25 is my second choice, and maybe later a barrel change, even though that looks like quite an expensive mission.

Anyway, any insight you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

I’ve got 2 Prophet Performance P1s - with .177, .22LR, .25LR (two of these) and .30. I’ve used them in competitions - for speed shooting the left hand cocking is awesome, actually nice for benchrest too as you can keep your right hand on trigger.

Its my all-time favorite rifle ergonomically - you can adjust the trigger, reg and hammer spring without ever picking it up from your shooting rest - haven’t seen that on any other rifle - and I own 20+ higher end PCPs.

My regs have been stable, but if creeps, its the simplest reg in the world to rebuild, polish up the washer surfaces and make it rock stable.

The rifle uses about 8 o-rings.

If looking for a .25, you need to look specifically if it has the .25LR barrel. This .25LR was only in the last year of production of the P1, its polygonal 1:32 twist like the .22LR and its an awesome barrel (right now I would not sell you my spare one for $400 - as they are harder to find than the .22LR).

The mags work great - used them in speed shooting without a single hickup and they are super fast to both load and insert/remove. You can swing them to either side - great design. BUT… you don’t need them, lol - for bench shooting you can just load pellets directly into the breech by hand - super wide easy access - easiest loading breech I’ve seen - likely a RAW TM loading port is similar.

I’ve timed myself in front of a buddy doing a caliber swap (I have two RTI barrel tools) - completed swap in less than 4 minutes (he has since bought a P3, lol).

Super compact platform, easy to tune and can make huge power if desired.

Its all-time classic pellet shooter (especially the .22 and .25 LRs). Beginning with the P2s, RTI began to focus on slug shooting (.22 and .25 RPB barrels have faster twist rates for slugs). I mention this because I know you are a pellet shooter.

Give me a call if you want to discuss more. I ain’t selling either of mine, lol. You would have to spend a lot of money on a current rifle to get a better barrel/trigger/tunable/durable platform than an RTI PP P1 - just my opinion.

I have both the full sized, V1, Prophet Performance and the Compact version, both in .22 .

1 - Magazine sticking up.
No problem. It rotates from side to side, so it's basically ambidextrous, and NOT in the way of your face.

2 - Sharp edges.
Yeah, but the only area that bothered me "was" the side plate that goes up near the trigger. Near the knuckle of my thumb.
Simple fix. A couple of quick swipes with a file to chamfer the edge, a hit with a black marker pen, fixed that problem.

3 - The flat butt plate is a little odd.
An inexpensive aftermarket rubber one, bonded in place, fixed that.

4 - Uncomfortable to shoot.
No...not at all.

5 - The cocking handle.
Yeah, might be "fragile" if you are "ham fisted", and feel the need to...slam it back and forth !! Treat it like it should be, you'll have zero problem. Neither of mine are, floppy .

6 - The AR type grip.
I'm not a fan of the grip angle of the grip that they use. I bought a couple to try, settled on one for each that is a little more vertical.

That's my nickles worth.
You WON'T be dissatisfied if you buy...version 1, version 3 or the new Mora.
As I understand, version 2 wasn't a big jump over version 1, and has some discrepancies...

My Prophet Performance 2.1 has been flawless. Bought it with the RPB barrel in .22, but immediately switched to the LR barrel. Slinging the 25.39gr MRD's at 970fps very accurately. My barrel order for the .177 LW, .25 RPB, and .30 LW barrels with 2 mags for each will be here next week from Tony at Talon Tunes. I like it, but like anything else when spending $$, the sky is the limit. I bought the 2.1 even though the P-3 was out due to a disappointing review on it. The gun was $1,600. The .22 LR barrel was $700, bag rider $70, $1,500 for the 3 barrel kits and mags, K&L extended buttstock with PRS bag rider $50 used, JB3D printed butt pad was $50, and the extended Arca/Picatinny lower rail was I think $75. No shortage of add-ons, that's for sure.

I’ve owned 3 P1 22 LRs and all have been fantastic and stupid accurate. I used one for three years in competitions and could not find another rifle that was more accurate until my Thomas. Easiest platform to tune right on the bench, great triggers, good shot count, robust yet simple design that flat out works. The only negative and I’m nit picking, is the cocking effort is a tad more difficult due to a heavy hammer spring. Tune it to 970, feed it MRDs and smile at the results.

I’ve since sold my P1 LRs since I got my Thomas but still have my P1 compact as it’s my main squirrel gitter and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon.

I’m not a fan of .25s but YMMV.

I’ve had RTI’s since they were invented. I’ve had every reg they ever made. This latest version is pretty good. Like almost all regs, there are things you can do to make it a little better if it’s throwing off your first shot of the day. I rest my cheek right behind the mag. If my mag is rotated because it got bumped, yes, you immediately know it. But I just swing it back over to the right with my cheek if I’m in the process of drawing down on a critter. I won’t touch on ergos or sharp edges that bother some because that’s all personal stuff. What I will talk about the .25 CZ barrel. It’s a better pellet shooter than the RPB in the same length. It’s not a slug barrel. But the 500mm RPB is only a so so slug barrel. The main thing with the gun is getting a comfortable butt pad. Get creative and you’ll like the gun more. What the gun comes with is just sheer laziness.

I bought my P1 performance right as the P2 was released. I went with the P1 simply because I liked it's simple straightforward design and also got a good price due to the new model being released.

I have never noticed any sharp edges and I do find it comfortable to shoot, but I only shoot from the bench. I think the full size Performance might be a bit heavy for shooting off hand.

As I said, I shoot benchrest, so the left hand cocking is perfect for me. My right hand never needs to leave the grip.
Magazines have never been an problem to me. The OEM mags are really slick but pricey. I have never felt that they were in my way. Even the aftermarket CARM and Orion mags that are a bit larger, are still not a problem for me. They all load easy enough and feed reliably. That said, I often just load single shot. That is easy enough on the Prophet. Plenty of room to hand load.

Regulator has never presented any issues. Maybe a little creep when it has sat with a full air charge for extened periods, but I ususally store it at lower pressures and just fill before shooting.

One of the big plusses is how easy this gun is to maintain. Barrel removal for cleaning or caliber changes is just a few minutes. I bought two o-ring kits when I got the gun knowing that I would eventually have leaks. That was three years ago and the unopened bags of o-rings have not been touched.

This gun is almoste boreingly accurate and consistent. The 22LR barrel is amazing and later I got a .25 RPB that is also a great performer.

I did add a K&L butt and bag rider. Also added an extended lower picatinny rail. the tiny one below the trigger guard was just not adequate.

The P1 is a solid well thought out design and I would not let go of mine. I think you would be very happy with on of these fine PCPs.
