I know we use the term "military campaign".
I don't think i've heard FT peeps celebrating victory "champaig-ning" "before" a match with a particular rifle platform.
In context i have always heard the word in FT used to reference the gun of choice for a particular person to compete with.

I tend to talk big in my head about how good my gun is before the first shot, then proceed to choke. It's all downhill from there.

Yeah in the sense of this definition the gun is the horse or race car. I think it’s more of an English (UK) thing.
