Hatsan Hatsan Flash-R Repair

I took a chance and ordered a refurbished Hatsan Flash-R during their 10% off refurb's sale. I really should know better, but did anyway... It arrived with about a 150 BAR fill. I aired it up to 250 BAR, and shot 2 magazines through it. Accuracy seemed really good, so I had high hopes of getting a decent air rifle. That's when things went south... I aired it back up to 250 BAR and let it sit overnight. The next morning it was empty! Now, when I fill it will air, it all immediately leaks out of the fill valve, and quite quickly!

I attempted to remove the fill valve assembly from the air cylinder to replace the o-ring that I suspect is bad, but it won't budge. I ca remove the entire air cylinder from the gun, but cannot get the fill valve assembly off, ant even using a heat gun and vice!

I have made several attempts at contacting Hatsan USA through their CS Form, but as typical, have not gotten a reply. I sent two more CS Forms this morning and am waiting on a reply (that I expect will never come). At this point, the gun is useless. I don't want to mess with trying to remove the fill valve for fear of causing damage that will void an otherwise worthless warranty. Since the gun was functioning well (aside from the failed fill valve), I'd like to keep it and just get a replacement air cylinder and fill valve assembly and do the repair myself, but I con't do that without the parts!

So, my question: Is there something else I can try beside a heat gun and vice that may help separate the fill valve from the air cylinder?

Does anyone know another way to contact Hatsan and get them to respond?

At this point, I'm going to give them another week to respond and if they don't, I'll be disputing the charge through my CC and see if that get's their attention!

Thanks all...

If it's very strong thread locker, I may be able to overcome it and perform a repair, if it's cross threaded then it will probably end up in the trash... Regardless, the plan is to give them a week to respond and make it right, if not, I'll be disputing the charge since I was sold a defective product. If Hatsan doesn't respond with an RMA or offer for parts, or the charge gets reversed and I'm told to dispose of it, I will get more aggressive with the repair attempt. If I'm not out any money and Hatsan doesn't want it back, then I really have nothing to lose at that point!

I just got one in a couple weeks ago, stock screws completely stripped out, hammer spring retention screw was stripped, managed to get that out and who ever had it before me was adjusting the hammer with the set screw still in and broke something inside. Luckily I sent in for an RMA and heard back within minutes. Sent the rifle back but now no word on a replacement. Who knows if or when I see that replacement.

Did you try a strap wrench on the tube ?
Yes I did! Still no luck! There are a lot of threads on that fill valve, so I wouldn't think they would have been able to tighten it all the way snug if it was cross threaded, so there may still be hope!

I did find the culprit, which confirmed my suspicions that the o-ring failed...

This morning I tried another approach... I put a few drops of silicone o-ring oil into the foster end of the fill probe and then aired it to 100 BAR. My thought was, if the o-ring was dry and not sealing maybe the silicone oil would lube it up and it would seal. I did this a couple times and thought I had it because the air did not immediately leak out. But then, pop and that's when I saw the piece of o-ring sticking into the fill port!

I have sent three request for service thus far and not gotten a reply. Maybe I should send a request for an RMA and see what happens. I hate to do that because I really feel it's a simple fix if I could just get someone to respond and send me the needed parts! It's really sad their CS is so poor! They are certainly quick about taking your money and sending you what you purchased, but from that point on, seems like the crickets take over!

Yes I agree, up till this one I've always had good luck with there refurbished ones. I'm positive they do not check them out other then firing them. Hell the baffles in mine were in pieces lol looked like someone took a hammer to them.

I finally heard back from Hatsan, they won't send me the parts but said they would let me send in just the air cylinder and fill valve for repair. I'm good with that since it's a smaller package and chances are they will probably just send another air cylinder and fill valve instead of actually repairing this one. I agreed to send the parts in for repair, now I'm waiting on their response and a shipping label... No telling how long that will take!

Dang Paul! That was quite the headache! Hope you get this issue fixed SOON! 🙏

Well, I have an update! I didn't hear anything back from Hatsan after the e-mail I received this morning. In that e-mail they mentioned using rubber in the vice and a big Phillips head screwdriver. So, in one last attempt, I wrapped the aircylinder with some rubber weather stripping I had laying around, secured it in the vice and used the biggest Phillips screwdriver I had, and off it came! I didn't even have to apply any heat! I replaced the o-ring, but it back together and aired it up to 250 BAR. So far, no air rushing out like before and I can't hear any air leaking when I put the fill valve near my ear. It's now fully reassembled and will sit overnight to see if hold air or if there is still a slow leak. I'm hoping for the best!
