American Air Arms Evol having cardiac arrest

Agree on the mirror finish not being generally “good”. Funny thing though, my understanding is that Evol barrels are polished to a shine from the factory…
Yep, they are shinny from the one and only I’ve seen. I don’t have a bore scope to do a thorough inspection but just looking down the barrel, it’s polished pretty well. I hope things work out for you. I’m waiting to hear back from AOA about spares. Maybe by the end of the week they’ll get back to me.

My barrel was very much shiny but didn't lead up much.

As for the AEA pellets I would try others also. Unfortunately besides my JTS 18gr pellets all other JTS and AEA pellets I've tried produce good results but with flyers. Could be ammo as well.
Fair point! I tried JTS and JSB (18 through 25gr) with similar/worse results… AEA 18gr were te best out of the bunch. All 20-22gr were poop, 25 better than 22 but worse than 18. Though I didn’t try 25gr at proper speeds. Maybe I have to try more.

If you did try a bunch of pellets then that's not looking good for the barrel. The rings aren't helpful. Maybe you can get a new Sub MOA as a replacement whenever those come out

Update lads… the new submoa ultralite barrel was available on the AAA page the other day so I ordered one. Received it and took the gun apart again since the reg was still not acting the way I would want it to. This time I polished the reg very aggressively, sort of either gonna be perfect after this or broken, all or none approach… cleaned the barrel thoroughly, put it back together and started shooting, reg set to around 2,100 for 18gr at 975ish and 22gr 900ish. Here’s the result:

Barrel also likes 20.2 .217 NSAs, similar results :)

Obviously happy with the gun now, was quite a journey though.. Would I ever get another Evol/AAA? No chance in hell! Tom never reacted to any messages and a new reg seems to be unobtanium, on back order with AoA but “ETA open…”. The rifle is nice (now) and all but the fact that a US based manufacturer is not reacting whatsoever to various attempts to contact through different channels and the designated distributor (and neighbor!) can’t do anything about spare parts within a reasonable timeframe either is just ridiculous. Same goes for the original barrel ever leaving any door, whether TJ or AAA. There are better/equal guns with way better aftermarket support available at the price point of an Evol (imho).

A couple of things for future reference to those finding this thread...

If the blue spring is wearing from rubbing and shedding blue dust or chipping paint off, it will leave debris on the grease on the valve stem, and this debris will cause an erratic shot spread as it lodges in between the stem and valve housing's hole.

Removing the poppet/valve stem transfer port housing assembly and polishing the stem and the bore of transfer port housing (where the stem rides in) (re-assembled dry so it doesn't collect dirt) will tighten up the shot string.

Glad you got it working good ! I have heard good things about the AAA guy but you wonder how many of those people never had a problem that they needed him to deal with ? Believe me you are not the only person with this experience with him. I’ve even heard much worse. A brand I will never own after hearing several of these stories. Sometimes it’s best to stick with major manufacturers.

I can absolutely see that. It’s a great rifle now that it’s working as it should and has a good barrel on it. But the brand/service suck big time… Shame given that it’s made in the US…

I would guess not many Evol owner even know what AAA’s service is like. You just happened to commit to one that someone destroyed. That thing just needed to be parted out. The second I would have seen that reg, it would have been going back to who I got it from. Hopefully it lives a life of luxury now. Free from Dr. Frankenstein or whatever caveman originally owned it.

Disappointing experience ... for sure...
I know Tom and it's hard to believe a scenario where he wouldn't take care of this, but things aren't so simple for him right now with the barrel making enterprise.
It was tempting to actually go down there(2 hours) and get the parts from him and get them headed your way, or at least see why no response ...
In my mind, AoA is the responsible party here and should have been able to get spares headed to you as they see him most every day and from what I saw on the last visit , he HAS them on hand... After all , AoA is the seller...
Just my $0.02 but no question disappointing ..

Bob,

Appreciate your perspective and you reaching out separately to help as well!! Maybe helpful for others to make Tom aware at least if/when you see him next time. If I were him I would care deeply about my reputation. I get it, sometimes life happens and we have a lot going on so that some things get snowed over before we notice. But then, I’m very fortunate and spent like 15-20k if not more a year on this stuff and know others that spent meaningful amounts as well. But I reply to around 100 emails a day, in between phone calls, to enable things like this… A consequence of this is that none of my future $ and probably none of my buddies’ will ever be spent with AAA again. It’s just too much hassle if you can’t get something as simple as a new reg and a response to a completely unusable barrel…

Have you considered going through AOA for any future issues? AAA is in the midst of rapid expansion on top of being totally Made in America🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸. So maybe, just maybe a little leeway? I would love to get my mitts on an Evol🇺🇸 to contrast to my BRKs…🇬🇧🙏

I went through AoA as well at the time of the original post… they told me “we can put you on back order but it’ll be available when it is available, sorry…”. To which I said yes, of course. Crickets since then.

It’s not just a single time. Unless you are a personal friend of Tom’s . This guy simply does not repond to any customer. It’s too bad as he does make a great product. Luckily I haven’t needed any parts for the Paradigm and it shoots as intended. I know I certainly have gotten much better customer service from just about every other airgun manufacturer out there.

Regardless of ones new adventures in business , the after service is what keeps the lights on and the tools turning. Poor business model he has going on IMO.

A lot of people love their AGT airguns, me included. But I bought a shipwreck Uragan and AGT isn’t selling me what I need. Fortunately other regs are available to replace the one that turned to powder. But I’m going to have to build a barrel or sell it for parts.
I hear you. But AGT probably at least responded to you. I’m surprised that they didn’t sell you a reg though?! I thought they’ll ship almost anything that isn’t a barrel if you reach out to them with a part #…

Rest assured, it is treated appropriately now :) still sucks that you can’t a replacement reg for your life, not even a response for that matter…
Luckily for you Huma makes regs for the evol.

Btw my buddy had those same "rings" in his barrel liner, and it happened because of cleaning his barrel with a metal rod trying to pound pellets out of the barrel that a customer packed into it in the middle of a hunt.

Happy to hear it's working out now though!

Have you tried reaching out to derrick wall for a barrel? Or maybe TJ can make you one?
