Tuning Who else enjoys breaking in their springers instead of tuning?

Tuning Springers vs. Breaking-In

  • I tune new springers as soon as I get 'em.

They must send all the twangy springers to the other side of the world. I only own 3 springers and a gas ram. None of my springers are harsh or twang when shot.
I did everything possible to my Benjamin Titan as it constantly killed scopes but it’s now tamed and now it’s a great little hunter. As far as the others (LGV Ultra Challenger, Hw77 Stainless and Hw50S) i must be lucky as to me they are not noisy, jumpy and are all pleasant to shoot.
However I’ve never shot a tuned air rifle so I can’t really cant compare but my LGV is the quietest (excluding muzzle noise) to shoot.

The LGU and LGV were about as close to tuned from the box as I've encountered. Great guns.

You owe it to yourself to shoot a tuned springer. I had never done so myself and for years was happy with what I had. I bought a used R1 that was a wreck and sent it off for repair and tune, came back a different animal all together. So much so I sent my R9 for a tune also. The difference is amazing and I'll likely never own a non tuned springer again.

Ordered a longer trigger spring. Want to remove the spring to clean and relube it. But waiting to see if I need too after the trigger tune.

I have two Weihrauch’s that are not tuned. A HW98 & HW55. I pretty much tune everything after initial function/accuracy test. These two shoot and behave perfectly enough to leave them be. All my Hatsan’s are tuned. Economy tuned. Blister pack sleeves on original springs. I swear this is as good as any other method.

I save all blister pack packaging I find. Even 2 liter bottles. Cut a sheet of paper that fills the piston from edge to edge. Use this for a template. Cut a piece of blister pack plastic that holds the spring firmly in the piston. Done.

I don't have enough experience with springers to know.
My R1 was stolen in 95.
After that I primarily shot pistols, powder burners, and my Sheridan.

I recently purchased two Weihrauchs an HW30 and an HW97K. Now after 500+ rounds in each I am scrutinizing them starting with the 97K.
I have had problems with the 97 not latching well, unless I slam it. I may be having the issue with the 30 as well, as both guns don't always engage the safety. I hate to slam them, but it may be necessary?

I haven't checked the 97 or the 30 yet after 500, but I suspect poor consistency with velocity. I've had the 30, shooting at 75 yards occasionally drop a pellet way short.
On the 97k I had as much as 30 fps variation on the chrony early on.
Both guns are still dieseling after 500 rounds, and you can't expect consistent velocities with that going on. If you don't have consistent velocities, you can't expect consistent long range accuracy.
So that points me to have them tuned, but by who?
