HW/Weihrauch Removing bolt on R9 receiver

Rebuilding my R9 and the screw that holds the receiver to barrel block. Why do they use flat heads? Stripped the slot doesn’t look to good. Ordered and received 2brand new ones.
I guess they could ask you:

Why did you strip it?

They use flat heads because they will hold a decent amount of torque, and they are easy to acquire tools to fit them.

If you didn't remove the nut side first, or tried to remove the bolt with the gun uncocked and assembled, that's most of your problem.

Using the wrong size screwdriver is the other.

I've had some of mine apart dozens of times and never had an issue with stripping them, for what that's worth.

I recommend these.

Edited a bunch to get the correct link.

This is what I've used for ages:

The right side is a lock nut. It has to be removed first. The left side bolt threads into the right side fork. As for tools, you need large hollow ground slotted screw drivers and or bits.

When reassembling get close to the tension you want with the left side bolt. Then tighten the right side lock nut while holding the the bolt in place. The adjustment will tighten as the lock nut cinches down. You may have to take a couple cracks at it to get the final adjustment where you want.

I find working two traditional screwdrivers difficult to control when setting the pivot tension. I prefer to use hollow ground bits in two rachet wrenches. I've had traditional screw drivers slide out and scratch the gun. The much shorter ratchets give you more control.

Also. Very important don't remove or reinstall the pivot bolt with the mainspring installed. The pivot bolt is always under pressure from the detent and or mainspring. Trying to reinstall the bolt under pressure is asking to cross thread the fine 7mm thread. Its very easy to damage the small threaded area in the right side fork. You mess that up you're screwed.
