I get why people don't want to publish their personal information, but putting your country/state is hardly personal.

I divulge that I am indeed a human on planet Earth. That’s the extent of the PII that I willingly make publicly available on the internet.

I would argue that we as people have the right to shelter the information we wish to keep private.

Seems like many are afraid….of what I’m not sure……I’m not sure that they know.

When I am doing business on the net I share whatever personal info that is necessary. If I am not doing business with a person it is not their business to know anything about me.

If I'm scrolling through the classifieds and see anything that I might be interested in, the first thing I do is look at the location.

I remember when I was a kid, I used to play hide and seek with my older brother and his friends. I thought I was really good at hiding because no one could ever find me. Turns out, they never came looking for me.

It is just the nature of online socializing. Just like the real world, takes all kinds to keep the world turning. People with a wish to maintain some level of anonymity are not rare nor are they aberrant.
In reality the vast majority of us will never meet in person so I have no curiosity about where members call home.

My kids were playing hide and seek. My youngest daughter had a great place to hide that the others didn't know about. Well, one time nobody could find her and she fell asleep. After a half hour to an hour the wife and kids are panicking. Next thing the neighborhood is looking for her. Another hour and wife calls the police. About that time she wakes up and comes out of her hiding place and you can imagine what happened after that.
