avenger poi shift only when prefilled

I've had my 22 Avenger tuned to 1400 psi on the reg with 1.5 turns on the HS since I got it two years ago and it shoots the CPHP's and JSB 15.89 extremely accurately for. I've shot at least 20k of the CHP and 5k of the JSB's, I get 180 shots on a 300 bar fill. The issue I'm having is I recently bought a crown mk2 off the classifieds and the seller told me its good practice to keep the guns stored under pressure, which I never did before. Once I started doing that though my POI of would ship about a inch high and half inch left but when I fill it right before I shoot I have absolutely none of these issues. It shoots amazingly accurately for up to 18 magazines. I just cant seem to figure out why would prefilling my gun a day or two before cause much a deviance in my POI? Btw I tested this theory at least 3 times and one time I even over filled my avenger to about 4600 psi and even then it was a tack driver. If I filled it a day or two before then shot it, I would notice my first half of 80 shots would be high then eveny itld walk back to the original zero. Anyone know why this could be happening? If I was reg creep wouldn't it have been apparent when I overfilled the it to 4600 psi? It's jut really annoying and I want it to be as accurate from the first shot to the last. I would greatly appreciate any help or insight, much thanks.

I have read about this awhile back. If I remember correctly it was determined to be due to the slight expansion of the air tube when sitting under pressure. It slightly expands and pushes on the barrel band which pushes on the shroud which pushes on the barrel shifting poi. I think people that experienced this removed the barrel band ?

Wouldn't rule out the temperature difference of the air pushing the pellet. After filling, the air reservoir will be warm to the touch, room temperature after sitting overnight. No expert on differences of using room temperature versus heated air but have watched STKO YouTube videos discussing the issue. I rarely use a PCP not cooled down overnight from filling, find more consistent accuracy. WM

When I did prefill it, it would sit anywhere from 1 day to 1 week so it would have time to cool down but like you stated WM I don't know how much of a difference that would make.

Thanks for the info trucker, I have a buck rail barrel band on it along with the stock one. I will give it a try but what are the downsides of just filling up before shooting everytime?

Thanks for all the help so far.

As long as you don't shoot to completely empty there is no issue at all. Most people like to leave it above reg pressure so I say whatever pressure above that should be fine

Hi There,
I experienced the same when I got my Avenger.
Earlier I experimented with barrel bands, and I don't believe in fixing the barrel with the air tank/s.

So I designed a new front for my Avenger that fixes the two pressure pipes together by clamping the the three parts together with m3 screws and nuts. The Barrel was polished and better supported inside the shroud.
The barrel is still 100% free floating.

This gives a solid support where you are able to move the rifle around and keep the POI where you expect this to be.
I also added Lead weight both in front and to the rear of the stock to make the rifle about 1 kg more heavy.
On the same time I rebuild the trigger first geometrically so the finger sits nice and the action is now very light and crisp. The original trigger is awful for precision shooting.

Before the redesign - I could sit at the bench and push 20 pellets through one hole, but when starting to move around on a benchrest target with 25 targets on one cardboard it would be all over the place.

After the rebuild it was a major improvement. It is now like shooting my FX Crown, but nowhere near as good holding its POI as my Daystate Redwolf or my Delta Wolf.

My POI only shifts when I leave the gun prefilled for more then a day or two. If I air it up and shoot right after, it's a tack driver for over 160 shots, no issues at all. The crown also is a tack driver but the previous owner had it set up for the 25g JSB redesigns and once I run out of those tins I'm going to adjust the reg and HS to get that to shoot the 15g JSB's as well.

Dairyboy what would happen if I shoot to completely empty? I have gotten my tank down to as low as 900PSI but never completely empty. What could theoretically happen if it goes down to zero?
