EDgun Got my Leshiy back, .22 or .25?

Sold my Leshiy to a friend when I needed money, and now I got it back. I missed the damn thing.

Now, I have 2 options: .25 and .22, both are 250mm barrels.
I currently have it shooting 18gr JSBs at 800fps, same tune gets 670fps with 25gr JSBs in .25.

I'm not sure how far I can push power settings without it affecting how the gun shoots, so I'm not trying to hot rod it. Would like to get at least 15-20 shots, effective within 50yds. Should I stay with .22 or try .25?

P.S. The gun came with a valve stem labeled Huma HP. I believe it also has Huma reg, so I don't know if the baggy is from the reg or if it's a high power valve stem. Is there such a thing as high power valve stem? What do I do with it?

I'm guessing the HP designation is to distinguish it from the shorter valve stem uses in the sub-12 kit.

For a Leshiy Classic & a high shot count tune I prefer .25. Something about the size of the transfer port allows a lower reg and/or HST setting in 0.25.

With a lighter pellet you can tune for a decently flat trajectory & high shot count in .25.

I have experimented with both H&N FTT 20 grain & GTO 16 grain but never out to 50 yards. I recall one other member had a Leshiy .25 shooting GTOs at 40 yards.

Hit reply to soon. Also want to comment that I believe you can achieve your goals with either caliber. If you prefer the trajectory, cost, accuracy, etc of one them, I think you can get over 15 shots.

But comparing both calibers with a 95% of FVP tune at around 24 FPE, I find .25 to have a more gentle shot.

[EDIT] Keep the extra valve stem. They were hard to find for quite a while.

I looked up an old .22/250mm tune.

Huma reg at 95 bar.

240 bar fill.

I got 25 shots averaging 720 FPS with the JSB 18.1 grain. I'm sure a few or more of these shots were off the regulator. I do not have that recorded.

In .22 too much higher than this & I found the short barreled Leshiy Classic a bit jumpy.

Started some experimenting with .25/250 & felt you could tune for 10% to 15% more power & it felt the same as the above 22/250 tune. I didn't get far but very promising results as far as shot count.

I'll take that into consideration. Maybe play with different spring tensions with .22 for now, see if the velocity gain is worth it.

Make sure you don't go above the first velocity peak. Have you figured that out yet?

Once you do, I would recommend getting not going above approximately 95% to 97% of that.

You can try short dwell tunes below 95% but don't try to increase power by going above.

I don't know what velocity it peaks at, but it was on 860fps, and I brought it down to 800. I'm not too familiar with Leshiy regulator, so I'm trying to play with spring tension for now. If I feel like it's not doing what it's supposed to do, I may start playing with the reg.

I wouldn't turn up HST then, only down.

I have the 350 mm barrel in mine, and I settled on the .22 JSB 14.3 grain at 865 FPS with factory reg settings. This pellet gives good accuracy and shot count at that speed. I found the 0.25 to be too slow and the accuracy was very subject to hold and follow through until the pellet exited the barrel.
The Leshiy has a single stage trigger with a long travel but once you're familiar with it, you can pull it partially through its travel and then give a final snap with your trigger finger when your crosshairs waver across the target for best results.

I guess I'll keep the current power set up and test for accuracy for now. If it works, it works; if it's not accurate enough, I'll play with HST.
