Hatsan Out of gas!

I’ve had many Hatsan’s over the past decade plus. Like to tinker and tune them. They are a good gun with with loads of potential. German steel and Turkish Walnut. British engineering. Made in Turkey. I have however, had every Vortex gas ram fail less one. I have been in contact with Hatsan waiting for them to get in spring conversion kits for the the 95 & 135. Finally they did. I just finished converting the last of four from rams to springs. Lined the piston with thick blister pack (soda bottle) plastic and polished the internals. No difference in the cocking or firing cycle. No twang or vibration. Really solid. And no more dealing with tired o-rings. No PCP’s anymore either. Just springers and pumpers. O-rings in pumpers last for decades because they are not under any stress when at rest. No 3000 lbs of pressure. Simple is the way to go for me. These four are the ones converted. If you have been considering the same, now is the time. At least acquire the conversion kit while they have them. $39.95. Spring, spring guide, washers and receiver end cap.

I’ve got a Turkish turd here. A HATSAN Tomahawk.. it’s by far the single worst engineered Gun I’ve laid hands on. it’s a 95 with a fluted stock and rounded breech.. I did reshape the stock for better Quattro grab.
ITS HORID .. soft steel and Ray Charles polish.. the internal dimensions are a joke. The piston is WAY to heavy ,the seals were so hard and undersized. and the spring way to weak. Even at 48 coils. That’s spreading to much load..
Its nothing like a Uk Tommy at all. That being said I am amazed that a poor engineering company could muster a decent trigger after screws are replaced.. is it a REKORD ? NOPE .. BUT PREDICTABLY GOOD

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with it as it’s rebarrel Ed in .25 .. could I work out the kinks . Possibly but poor designs from the start are not my cup of tea.. The piston needs to be bored to get better springs. NOT FOR POWER BUT SMOOTHER SHOT CYCLE. . Metal,is butter soft cold rolled breech block.

48 coils of .125 wire .550 OD IS just not enough ..

I might end up giving it away ,it’s not my thing. I tried early Quattro Patriots and swore them off , this was not my choice to get but I decided to try again.. DISAPPOINTMENT. .

Is there an online link for this? I do have a new hatsan, and while I haven't had any issues, I wouldn't mind a spring kit, just in case.

Too bad you haven't had good luck with it...I like the stock on it well enough. Sounds like the rest is a bit of a hassle.

Never had any real problems with my 4, although I've always figured they were oversprung to even start since any Hatsan rifle I've opened up has been and most of their rifles are nothing more than copies of the Webley rifles. Just a shame they didn't copy them just a bit better. Also curious who did the rebarrel since is it just me or is that thing sleeved??
I'm nowhere near as skilled as you when it comes to working on airguns, just a basement workbench tinkerer with basic hand tools to work with, but things like you're describing always make me get that tinkering itch that would have me saying if you just want to give it away, I'd play with it, even if it ended up just parts added to the pile I already have. Girlfriend always says I'm not quite right...lol.

When you go to the HatsanUSA site, go to the service/contact. Then put in the request. They are very good at getting right back to you. The kits are not available any other way. The order doesn’t even show up on “my orders” on my site.

Yes sir I agree with you totally. No I don't own or ever owed a PCP or springer for that matter. But I agree 100% on "Simple is the way to go for me" I have a couple of multi-pumps and a single stroke pneumatic (P-3). I've been thinking about getting one of them "springers". I understand that many choose PCP's for their power/accuracy and I do get it, to each their own ;).

Been a long time since I bought a Vortexed Hatsan and the only change I know for sure they've made was taking out the bleed screws that used to be on their better rams.
Only one I've had go bad did because I tinkered with it and no fault of Hatsan's. Take that with a grain of salt since it's been more than a bit since I've shot any of mine and they could well be dead by now. If they are, I have a few project rifles to play with...lol.
