Am I a sucker??

Question for you guys. I recently sold a gun on here to another member. He reached out and said the gun won't hold air and blows back out the fill valve. I only filled it twice while I had it but it worked fine. He even told me it showed up full of air. He wanted his money back and is sending it back to me because he doesn't want a "project". I sent him his money.
My son is sort of chewing me out saying it was sent in working order and there isn't a warranty on used guns here. He might be inclined not to refund the money. I sort of feel the same way but went ahead with the refund. What say you??

Thanks, Scott

Nope, it’s the right thing to do. If it’s the huntsman, it’s his loss. Unregulated gun leaking (if it is) is an o ring most likely. Far thing from a “project.” Maybe buyer’s remorse. I had a rifle I bought new that had a leak within the first month. I guessed it was a bit of dirt from the fill probe. Sure was. I cleaned up the o ring and put some new silicone grease on it, it’s been holding air like a champ since.

Based on nothing more than what you posted, no I wouldn’t. Showed up full of air? Some missing information. Could be completely on the level, seems to me most here are but I would have to give the gun a good inspection first.

My son said that exact thing. He said he wouldn't refund until the gun was in hand and checked over.

-----------an addendum to my previous post . ---------------

If I had been on the receiving end I can very easily change out a fill port lol and would not have demanded anything as sometimes things just happen . But a leaking fill port would never lead me to demand a full refund as it is a very simple fix . Some people are just silly nowadays IMHO .

Had a new crossman less than ten fills do the same thing today at our clubs shoot,I think something is sticking the valve open in the fill port, doesn’t take much under the high pressures. After filling when we go to bleed before disconnect it blasts all the air out of gun as soon as you open the bleeder.
Exactly what he described is happening.

I think you’re a good man based upon the information that you’ve presented in this thread. Is the other party willing to share his side of this story?
I chatted with him on the phone about it. He doesn't seem like the "fix it myself" type. He was suggesting places to send it. I told him I'm fixing it myself. He admitted it was full of air when he got it but yet told me I "had" to take this gun back because it was not as advertised. That hit me wrong. Seems like a nice guy on the phone but a different kind of person than I am. I would just fix it and move on.

Im sorry this has happened to you but I understand why you refunded him the money. Sadly, I take a "trust but verify" position where I would have him send it back on his dime and I would fix it and send it back on mine.

You met all the criteria, it arrived in the condition it was sold as, the o-ring was not your issue and he should have tried to work it out with you.

I am currently in the middle of a dispute with a person that sent me a gun with missing parts, this was over 2 month ago and still, no missing parts have arrived as I was promised several times.

Will grieve PayPal soon if I dont get the parts very quickly.

Something similar happened to me on this forum. I sold a guy a gun on which I put a Lothar Walther barrel I bought from Tim at MAC1 airguns. It was sold to me as a LW poly barrel. Guy receives the gun and like the very next day calls me and says he knows all about barrels and says it does not look like a LW barrel to him. He asks me to contact him to discuss "possible remedies". He decides a $100 or so give back is in order. The whole gun was only about $400, and I paid shipping via UPS insured.
I refunded him the money immediately via PayPal. Couple days later he writes and actually tells me he took the gun apart and he believes it IS a Lothar Walther barrel. No offer to pay the money back to me though. I am thankful (and hopeful I never) need to sell my soul to the devil for such a small sum of money. I did block him so I do not accidentally do business with him again.

The way I see it is all airguns need maintenance and replacement parts. The manufactures even send extra o-rings and other replacement parts because they know this is the case.

That being said, it sounds more like the buyer either didn't like it, or it just ended up being something they didn't want. They also might not be as experienced in troubleshooting issues. Obviously, since it came with air in it, it was able to hold pressure when the buyer got it.

From a good person/community point of view, you did the right thing, and hopefully you'll be able to fix the issue easily and sale it again.

As far as the buyer, if they read this message, they may want to rethink PCP in airguns, as they will all require some sort of troubleshooting as they get used. There are a lot of o-rings and other sealing surfaces that need to be at 100% for it to function properly. From what I'm seeing, springers are a lot more forgiving and simpler, and require a lot less troubleshooting.

WHEN they return the gun! I'd look it over. Then refund. If they damaged it , keep a cut of the money. You have to cover yourself, If gun is working fine, return their money in full. Few bucks isn't worth your integrity. You will be able to resell it.

Other people should be warned about this buyer... Just my opinion. Granted, yes, it is only $100, but that is a lot of money when living paycheck to paycheck, and theft is still theft, no matter the amount.
