No target shooting anymore?

I came to a point where I want to shoot, take the air rifle, shoot one or two 5 shot groups at different distances which is always about the same good group, pack up a go put away the rifle. I am getting bored with target shooting. If it is not hunting, which I don't get regular opportunity to do, the rifle is not getting much use anymore. I tested most pellets available to me, I have the DOPE on all I shot so there is no challenge anymore. Luckily I did not buy more new rifles as I can see people are getting bored with shooting the same rifle, buy another just to go through that prosses again.

How often do you get to that state of mind? Is that when you start looking for a new rifle to buy?

Same here. I get bored printing group after group.
Mainly use paper to verify POI so I'm confident when that critter shows up.

Since your guns spend a bit of time sitting it might be interesting to document how they shoot that first shot with a cold barrel 🎯

This is a fun post and I dont know why it isn't added to every day. When I first saw it I thought it was going to be one of those things that kept going on here for hundreds of pages

I have gotten to that point with firearms. So I can relate on a certain level. Right now I am waiting for my finances to afford an air rifle that can keep up with me.
What is your current and most precise rifle?

That is why I out out steel targets of different sizes at different ranges. You get bored hitting a 2" target at 100 yards.....move to the 1" and keep going. That to easy then move to 150 yards it a 3" target and so forth.

The most fun is a KYL rack at a 100 yards, to easy then add a barricade or some kind of prop to make things more difficult.

I would be bored in five minutes shooting groups on paper. The only time I shoot from bench is to sight in the rifle. After that it's off hand, on sticks, or resting on something. I shoot reactive targets of different kinds and size. I believe this is better for practice in real world situations, hunting etc... I have never been bored doing this. And I usually shoot every day.

We have open fields, tall trees, 100 or more nesting boxes. Target rich for starlings. Lots of HOSP's but they hide deep in the pines, you can hear them but can't see them.

The black caped budgies also frequent in the pines so I dare not shoot.

I have always had a poor memory, I don't take notes other than recording dope on blue tape taped to the gun. I have several guns. This keeps it interesting. I have found that it is developing my overall understanding of the characteristics of shooting, so my skill level is greatly improving. This is what keeps me interested, along with the occasional varmint that presents itself.

Hello everyone,

Well I started shooting paper targets in my teens to improve my accuracy for powder burner competition. I turned 83 this month and still enjoy shooting paper targets almost every day but using mostly PCP's now. Cannot imagine ever getting bored while keeping my shooting skill :D

Keep on keeping on Thomas!

I'll just randomly set out soda cans filled with water throughout my property, and shoot the cans whenever I feel like it. Ranging anywhere from 50-250 yards. I can go prone on my front porch, shoot through the yard, over a not busy road, though a cow pasture to another tree line and get my 250 yard shot. Soda cans are definitely more fun than paper, my dad shoots PB at steel, and doesn't care about airguns when I'm shooting paper at the bench, but he's quick to come out and shoot the cans.
