Lubber Hunting with Airsoft?

I live in Florida and each spring/summer there is a lubber invasion. These are large grasshoppers that eat our garden and when full grown they are poisonous. And poison doesn't kill them when full grown. Nothing eats them except one species of birds that kill them, hang them up to dry in the sun which must extract the poison and then eat the Lubber. I have an airgun range in my yard but shooting lubbers with a pellet isn't practical or safe. I was wondering if an airsoft CO2 pistol/revolver shooting a plastic 20gr bb with a 300-350 fps muzzle velocity from 2-6 feet would terminally "whack" these critters. They are large and tough. I have to beat them with a brick or stomp on them if they are on something hard. Most of the time they take a severe beating before giving it up. Obviously a pellet would do the job but holes in the fence, outdoor furniture, clay plant pots or my neighbor's dogs and I will look like one of the deceased lubbers! Wondering if anyone had experience with using an airsoft gun for something like this.

So I did a little research and they do make and sell grasshopper bait. Perhaps you could set up some on your range to draw them in. I've done that in the past with yellow jackets and asian hornets. They like watermelon and cantelope slices.

There are a bunch of different flowers that grasshoppers will avoid. Lavender and lilac among them.

Cheers,

J~

Are these the kind you have?

They're actually pretty cool looking with a bit of scary in there.

I use to shoot stick matches out of my Daisy BB gun and kill beetles that would craw up the outer brick wall of our house. (after watering the lawn). The matches would go thru the beetles and ignite and the beetles would fall flaming to the ground. It was cool. My mother put an end to that when she seen the black marks on the side of the house.

I lit a campfire in the basement once. What an a$$ whooping I got for that WITH a stick from the fire!

Dunno what the fuss was about. In my defense, it was a small fire.

BTW here is a good AGN link to the subject. https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/co2-softair-pistols.1289249/
Some deceased mice so I guess the Lubbers would be toast as well :devilish: To digress. I use to race bikes and often trained with my training buddy motor pacing behind his small scooter. We burned up the engine and I bought a larger used scooter cheap. Before I knew it I had sold the cheap, practical scooter and had a new Harley which was useless for motor pacing. I now have a Diana Chaser .22 to kill Lubbers. I think there is a pattern here :geek: I can kill Lubbers but if I kill fences, the neighbor's dogs, lawn furniture or planters, I'll be the toast. Frankly if I had found the AGN thread I probably would have gone the airsoft route. But the Chaser will be more fun for home target shooting.
