RAW LRT (Full Review) Grey Laminate / Rapid Air Worx HM1000X LRT

Thanks all. When I originally searched for the HM 1000x LRT I never saw the current model. I've reached out to Martin and Ken and others.

I've written to Pyramyd Air and advised them I want the "no-shroud" model and due to the confusion in my order for me being ill-informed I'm going to wait and buy it through them.

Thanks again.

My RAW HM1000x LRT is scheduled for delivery this Friday (shroud model) and I have another one (No-Shroud) on backorder (anticipated in stock early October 2022). I've spoken with Neil Clague (NC) and others about moderator options to do away with what many consider to be an overly large if not huge moderator and aesthetically unpleasant.

Options for a moderator or its replacement vary depending on which model I keep. The “No-Shroud” model with its threaded end allows for a moderator to simply be installed at the adapter while one replacing the OEM is more involved in removing it rather than adding to it by way of example, a DonnyFL Ronin.

I’m looking for a moderator that would be backyard safe and not impacting precision or performance for both the “shroud” and “no shroud” models. Moderators that extend down the barrel versus moderators that simply extend from the end of the barrel would be my preference and smaller that being two inches in diameter as the OEM “shrouded” model is.

The one coming with the unf 1/2 20 will give you the option of trying as many LDC's to fit the sound signature and accuracy you're looking for! But...the new large LDC might do that too!

While I don't know when the "No-Shroud" will actually come in, I've decided to simply accept the "shroud" model when it arrives this Friday and wait and see if the "No-Shroud" actually arrives in early October. If it does I will most likely buy it and sell whichever one I don't want to keep.

I'm assuming there are moderators that will fit the "No-Shroud" model that have tubes (thinner than the OEM) and moderators that are about the same overall length of the "Shroud" model. I am not looking for a long moderator that attaches to the front of the "No-Shroud" barrel and extends from there.

I'm talking with Martin at airguns-USA and Neil (NC) about custom moderators, but curious if moderators from DonnyFL, Impulse Air, Huggett are good options? I'm assuming most of the latter moderators attached to some form of threaded adapter at the end of the barrel and extend forward. I like the custom moderators that have adapters that have the moderator tube starting well down the barrel keeping the overall length past the barrel end to a minimum.

SouthBay, OEM RAW's do not come with a "shroud" but with a caron fiber sleeve whose purpose is to stiffen the barrel and reduce harmonics. AZ Tunes is the only aftermarket "SHROUD" maker/installer that I know of and they are THE QUIETEST (think mouse fart) shroud or LDC known for RAW's. Pricey and wait times are long but well worth the investment if quiet is your goal! Hope you get the first one soon!

Won't a slip on adapter be less accurate than a threaded barrel?

Won't a slip on adapter be alot less accurate?
No, the slip on adaptors are made on cnc machines so arguably better tolerances than done on a manual lathe.

I have a lathe and have done several barrels but there is a very slight possibility that by removing material off the choke to form the 1/2unf thread, it can affect accuracy, I prefer to make slip on moderators and shrouds for all my non threaded barrels as it eliminates the risk completely.

No. There is a significant body of opinion among precision smiths (including Martin), that removing metal from the exterior of the bore will affect internal dimensions to the detriment of accuracy. I was discussing this with him several years ago, and he had recently threaded a muzzle at the insistence of his customer. He warned that there would be no guarantee of accuracy, and as he predicted, accuracy was poor. I'm not an engineer nor machinist, but I believe muzzle threading can be successful if it is done as a step in the original barrel production, depending on the specific process. But a finished barrel is just that, finished.

I've been told that threading the muzzle end opens up the bore from two different friends with vast barrel knowledge (and Martin makes a 3rd VERY knowledgeable source).

Threading the muzzle end of a choked barrel has gone better than threaded the muzzle end of an unchoked barrel, in my barrel testing.

I would never thread the muzzle of a button drawn barrel. However hammer forged barrel appears to have different phenomenon.
