I wouldn't put much weight in the comments telling you to avoid used due to buying an inaccurate gun. I've sold a bunch of guns that shoot like a lazer on here. I get bored easily and once I get a gun stacking pellets I tend to move on to something else. I believe there are a lot of guys just like me on this site!!

Main thing I do when I see a gun listed that I'm interested in is dig back through the sellers past postings. He usually has something to say about it or groups to show off or more importantly problems to discuss on the item he's selling. That can tell you a lot about what you might be buying.
1) If used it needs to be cheap enough to cover any surprises the seller may have forgotten about;)

2) If I am buying a $2200 pcp in the used market I want to see prices around $1500 tops. Thats just me and everyone else may see it different but if its not discounted enough I would rather buy new.

3) Not exactly sure what you mean by special configuration. Sounds like you already have the caliber and barrel length decided on so not much else as far as configuration to change. Do you want the bronze one or standard black. Are you shooting pellets or slugs? If slugs then buy a slug liner with the rifle or the tensioned system if you are into that. If you want the carbon inner liner sleeve dont forget to add that to the cart as well. If its used you are looking at and you already know you will be adding a new back bone, slug liner, barrel sleeve or arca rail I would try to find one with as many accessories or mods that you would add to a new rifle.

4) The best you can afford. I have a vortex razor gen2 and a vortex golden eagle on my two impacts. I will most likely swap my leupold mark5 to my panthera in the coming days. It currently has a vortex venom on it. I never say I should have put the vortex diamondback tactical on this impact instead of the razor. So always get the best scope you can afford.

what is your total budget?
Having a set budget will give you a lifle line from going too deep into the rabbit hole!!
Agree with @LDP on getting the best you can afford..100-200 yards is going to need quality glass( not necessarily expensive) and magnification
Pesonally, i do not sell my rifles that shoot well. I have the notion in my head(right or wrong) that most do the same. If it shoots well, they keep it, if not...sell.
So i would say buy new. But that's just my opinion.
If you are shooting over 100 ...you're probably shooting slugs ..that's a entirely different rabbit hole that i am still navigating
Do you have the support equipment ...a tank and a place to fill, or a compressor. Bags or bipod to shoot off. cleaning and maintenance.
Give these guys a $$$ amount and they will be happy to spend it for you :ROFLMAO:

I am not a fan of buying a used PCP but budgets and desires may make it necessary for some buyers
The Impact and specifically the M3 is the most messed with guns on the market. If I were wanting an M3 but had a limited budget I would look at used but the criteria would be very restricting
Bone stock with a mild tune and I would be considering it. Decked out with all the after market bling and I would not even look at it.
I own two M3’s and I am a fan. However the propensity for the gun to be altered for higher performance makes them a potential problem to buy used in my opinion.

Avoid buying used (unless it is 50% less than retail price), I would get new. Any issues on these high end guns can become expensive to fix so unless the used one is discounted deeply, I would stick with new.

Like others above have noted, why is the person selling their gun? Do they have too many? Is something wrong but they are not mentioning it in their ad? Why would anyone sell their gun if it shoots well? If you know the seller or can shoot the gun before buying, then used makes sense because you know what you are getting into.

I lean towards new, mainly so I know exactly what I'm getting and if something isn't right it's on the retailer to make right.
That being said I've bought a few used guns on here and haven't been disappointed. But I buy only from active posters on this site that show their knowledge through their participation here.
Now I just need someone on here to sell a specific rifle I'm currently looking for.......lol

If you are mechanically inclined and find a used one for 1500 that could be a good option. I have one that is brand new for sale for 2000, and that is close to what used M3’s are going for around here. As far as first gun, I don’t see why not. There’s more information out there and aftermarket parts for an impact than most other guns. You definitely won’t be disappointed with it a week after you buy it. I think the 100 yard benchrest comp at NAC was just won with an impact. If you plan on shooting beyond 100 yards you may want to consider getting a heavy slug liner or second barrel.

Depending on how accessorized this used impact comes, you could easily spend up to another grand just in aftermarket goods. If you only want to add aftermarket parts that further enhance the guns performance, and not about bling blang, the two things to consider are the Airmarksman backbone rail and some type of barrel tensioning system. The bling stuff like angled gages, digital gages, shoulder and cheek extensions, all that can wait. Put your leftover cash into getting stocked up ono rings and maybe a couple of regulator rebuild kits from FX

My Impact is my first and only PCP. I knew I was serious and had wanted one for years. I knew I didn’t want a progression of lesser rifles only to work my way up, but just one I would know intimately and not grow out of. Also, the greatest potential for accuracy was paramount since I knew a 2 inch group at 100 yards would make me feel one way, and 1 inch or even 3/4 of an inch would make all the difference to me. I recognized that I am a tinkerer at heart and the adjustability was a lure. I have since shot a variety of projectiles from 18 grain diabolos to 30 grain slugs from 50 feet to 200 yards, changing nothing more than settings. Originally, I had a long list of aftermarket accessories that I had to have, but then realized I only needed the rifle, a way to fill it, and some ammo to begin with. I have since added bits and bobs, but only as I’ve felt a real pull for them. For these reasons it’s been right for me.
So ask yourself some questions, read the valuable info from the good folks here, and it should lead you to where you want to be.

First, thanks for a thoughtful and reasoned response.

As to your #’s 1&2, I heartily agree that I wouldn’t know what to look for as regards problems. All this scores in the “buy new” column.
My response to #3 necessity points up my profound ignorances as to PCPs in general and the M3 in specific. slug barrels apparently handle diablos well enough for low cost plinking at short ranges. My intent is a setup that offers ~1000fps mv’s with 30-40gr slugs with high accuracy, so a 700mm .22 slug barrel is my choice. I don’t fully understand tensioner setups, nor the why of them since the M3 seems perfectly accurate without it, but I accept that they must represent an improvement, so why not? I also read that the so-called power block is a worthwhile option
In my description of special configurations, I would include an adjustable, butt plate and cheek rest. I’ve considered the idea of mounting diopter sights, but pretty much dismissed that as my eyes no longer are up to them so that leads us to the number four point.
I am very familiar with the Leopold Mark series mil-dot fixed power scopes. Not at all with their Current series of variables As to other brands, I shot a series of Super-Sniper scopes in F – series competition for some years with great success. i’m open to the idea of variables and to some of the more innovative RETICLE schemes, but I was trained on MIL-DOT 10X and those ranging and trig functions are quite embedded in me. What would you recommend for a range of magnification? And along with the various quality brands, what model ranges represent the best value in performance?

I figure to be in the system for something a bit over three grand. Believe me, I’ve got all the F class and tactical accoutrements I need. I’m figuring for a tank to be commercially refilled and a small compressor to fill rifle mounted tanks in the field. Your comment on optics intrigues me and I would really enjoy your further commentary. I am well aware of how much money you can pour optics without commensurate benefit. To answer your questions yes, I plan on shooting slugs, and worse yet, I have a friend I saddled with my old bullet swage who made winning bullets for me and for a number of bench rest record holders. I’m getting a bit old to be playing at rifle games other than prone and I don’t plan on setting any records but I’m not what you would call a casual plinker.
I suppose that’s about it for me now. Thanks again Knives and I greatly look forward to your response.

amen to market bling! I’m leaning toward buying the rifle new with any trick installed by a reputable dealer, i.e. power block, Barrel tensioner, etc. if you were buying any of your M3’s again, what would you buy new in terms of tricking them out? It seems there’s quite an aftermarket in used bling at sufficient discount to make it and appealing proposition for such things as I might find appropriate, but I’m not generally a fan of hanging every available contraption on anything I care to use.. I hope you’ll reply to my question and I thank you again for your comment.
