Beeman Laser MKIII Gas Ram

Certainly late to this party - but wanted to understand the difference between the Beeman Laser R1 and the Rx. From what I can make out this Laser Ram is not readily serviceable nor adjustable. I gather from comments on about the Ram from a Beeman Rx it is quite different - both serviceable and can be pressurized? Perhaps someone could confirm my suspicions?

Lewis....great find. You get all the good stuff! 😆
I wonder if either of these 2 are in your collection? Sold them years ago....regrettably.

@kingfisher61, Thank you for posting these pictures.

Everything I read says the blond laminate with stippling on the grip and forearm is a MKII and no stippling is a MKIII. Others have said that only the spring vs ram matters and that both MKII and MKIII were available stippled or smooth. Until now have never seen another with stippling on only the grips. I have one of the grip only stippled guns as well. Not sure if that makes it a MKII, MKIII, or something in transition?

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would love to learn.

They are completely different guns. The RX guns were built from the ground up with an adjustable Theoben gas ram. They have a different trigger as well. A trigger that can be greatly improved by David Slade or others but it is not in the same league as the Rekord trigger in the R1 and other HW guns.
The R1 Laser MKIII is built the same as any other R1 but has a different stock and the spring has been replaced by a non adjustable Theoben gas ram.

I would have loved to see a version combining the adjustable gas ram and the Rekord trigger!

Hi Lewis.
my R1 Has been retrofitted with a Theoben ram at Beeman in HB, Ca. Back in 2003.

I purchased this .20 R1K brand new in 5/97, and several years later wanted to increase the power a bit. My airgun guy suggested having him send it back to Beeman for the Theoben gas spring as he called it. So we did. That was March 2003

I have not had the ram out of it since it has returned from Beemans facility. So just short of 19 years and still going strong. As near as I can tell, it looks like the ram you show as I can see some milling marks in the groove that the shoe slides in.
The paperwork from Beeman is seen in the third picture

Wow, 19 years on that Theoben ram and still going! That is remarkable to say the least. Hatsan should take a page out of Theoben's playbook, and build their Vortex gas rams the same way. I'm told the Theoben rams have much better seals, similar to those found in hydraulic cylinders, rather than cheapo o-rings like Hatsan uses. I'm sure that is the "secret" to the Theoben gas ram durability. I'm on my second Vortex ram in my 95 Vortex .22, first one failed in less than five years, de-gassed itself pretty much overnight awhile back. I recently replaced it, and wondering how long THIS one is going to last. You have a beautiful rifle by the way. I used to drool over them while looking through those full-color Beeman catalogs of yesterday....

On the original RX model, did it contain a rebuildable ram? I know that the RX1 and 2 can be rebuilt but i thought the original RX was not and had to be replaced if it went.

All the RX guns that I have owned were rebuildable. The RX had an aluminum end cap, after owners had issues with the retaining pin hole elongation Theoben under a recall replaced them with a steel end plug. That’s why you see the “1” stamped on the earlier guns.
