Air Arms TX200 VS PROSPORT which one?

I don't have a lot of experience with the Pro Sport but have extensive experience with a TX200.

I would get the TX200 (it's much more popular). For guns above 12 FPE, the cocking effort on the pro sport doesn't really feel that hot. The TX200 isn't just more popular on the forums, most FT shooters prefer it and it has one vastly more awards than the Pro Sport has.

I know that's not super technical and probably isn't exactly the sort of response you're looking for but...that's my $.02. They're both a joy to shoot but I think for the money you're paying for a Top Tier springer, the TX200 makes more sense.

Myself I could never get used to the somewhat wonky and uncomfortable cocking lever on the pro sport. That being said it sure is a looker though!
I've had all the variants in beech and walnut and for me the TX HC in Walnut is the best balanced of them all. Keep in mind I'm mostly a hunter and not much on paper punching.
All of them are wonderfully accurate no matter which one you choose!

Have owned my pro sport in .177 and an hw97k in .177 for many years. Both are setup to shoot about 12-12.5fpe and are very accurate. The pro sport may have a slight edge in accuracy, but that is just my impression, not something I could prove factually. The pro sport is a great looking gun, but really best for shooting off a rest. As much as I like my pro sport, it would not be a great 'only gun' and I'd choose either the hw97k or the tx200 first.

Never liked the cocking lever on the Pro Sport. Yet it's extremely accurate and quite beautiful.
The TX200SR version is an alternative not mentioned. One of my personal favs.

I've never shot a TX200, but they must be pretty good because a lot of people love them. I chose the prosport because I think it looks bad azz for one, and I've always wanted one in walnut. TX was never on my radar, the TX also has the ratcheting bear trap that must be released before firing, I'm not fond of that either.
The prosport was awkward and hard to cock at first, but after shooting it for several months I've gotten used to the cocking sequence and it's not a problem for me. Mine is full power so it's not as easy to cock as my 97K at 13ftlbs, the prosport is pushing 15ftlbs. Both are "one holers" if shot correctly.
I would choose a 97K before a TX200, but that's just my preference. Either of them can be made easy to cock with the right spring set up. I removed the trigger block linkage (half azz bear trap) on my 97K and 77K, so I can easily decock them if I need to, which I do on occasion. The prosport has a plunger that the cocking arm depresses when closed, so you can't fire it with the cocking arm down, so I haven't been able to decock the prosport.
As far as cocking and leisurely shooting my 97K and 77K at 13ftlbs are way easier to cock than the prosport. But like I said it's not a problem, and I like the power of it. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these piston guns because IMO they are the best in their class. Mine are all .177 and I shoot 8 to 9 gr pellets.

Either is basically the same. The pro sport a lot of people are attracted to because the loading arm is hidden and under the stock so if you where so inclined to attach a sling to the rifle the band will go on the barrel instead of the cocking arm. It gives a cleaner appearance that looks more like a traditional rifle.

The TX200 with external cocking arm seems more popular with the FT shooters, that is at the club I am a member of based on the idea that everyone who shoots an air arms springer shoots a TX200. The regular TX as opposed to the HC gives the shooter more leverage to cock the gun making it easier to shoot. If you can handle the extra force required to cock a pro sport then the difference between the two doesn’t really exist other than what the purchaser wants to look at.

Some say the pro sports shorter barrel makes the gun more accurate because of less travel time in the barrel. Some say the standard TX gives better ballistics because of the longer barrel.

some people say the pro sport is only an advantage in sub 12 foot pound guns because the extra cocking linkage is weaker than the TX.

So what is the difference??? Nothing really

I think any difference in accuracy would be a matter of having more weight near the muzzle.

I’ve got a TX200 Mk3 and I like it, but I think I’d get either an HC or a ProSport if I did it again. I don’t mind cocking effort at all, but I do like a shorter, handier rifle.

I’ve currently got mine set up with a 10-40x scope and I love it in that configuration, but if I had a prosport I’m sure I’d want a 4-16 or something similar.

Love the feed back,
I bought a used TX200 in Beech and fell in love with the design. 1 month later I sold it and ordered a new one in Walnut.
I am tempted to sell one of the powder burners to get a Prosport also.
I absolutely love my tx200, I also have an older S510 non regulated I love shooting.
Both are in .22 cal.
I am becoming an Air Arms fan.
I will be able to shoot air rifles more often than firearms when I am older.

Nice!

I recently got a prosport and a tx hc both in .177. The tx is harder to cock with a pg4 12ftlb kit than the prosport with a full power pg4 kit with one coil removed. The prosport is very easy to shoot off a rest and I struggle with the tx. The tx actually fits me better and is more fun to shoot. The prosport is the first time that the cd trigger was clearly better than the rekord.
Up until then the cd trigger has never impressed me. If I only had one it would be the tx hc. BTW the anti bear trap on the tx is not an issue for me and I always thought it would be.
The funny thing to me is that I also bought a HW80 with a Maccari soft tune kit with a .177 HW98 barrel installed and I can shoot it better and easier than either of my AA guns

One thing to keep in mind when comparing these rifles is that although they are fundamentally the same rifle, the TX200 is sold primarily as a target rifle while the Prosport is sold primarily as a hunting rifle and that's going to affect caliber choices, scope choices and power level. Having shot both the full power and the 12 fpe versions of the TX, I strongly prefer the 12 fpe version. At 17 fpe my TX was hold sensitive and I shot way too many fliers. At 12 fpe it's a tack driver and fliers are rare. It's also in .177 and has a high magnification scope on it.

If I had a Prosport however I'd want to opt for more power than 12 fpe, probably in the 14-15 range. I'd also want it in .22, (.20 if they made it), and I'd have a lower powered scope on it.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the anti-beartrap mechanism, but it has never bothered me either. I've found it easy to use and I quickly got used to it. I suppose it does make a clicking noise when cocking that could alert game to your presence, but I don't hunt with mine so that hasn't been a problem.

I have 2 of each. You can’t beat the looks of the PS. I’m always sitting so jacking the PS is no problem at all. In the TX’s I find releasing the cocking bar tight, especially in the cold. The Hunter is is the hardest to jack for me. Don’t like the bear trap in TX’s which the PS doesn’t have. I never let go of cocking arm even with it. I think it allows you you get sloppy. All are accurate. The PS is one of my favorite rifles, wish they were made .20 cal. Put Vortek springs in both, the inside is as nice as the outside. For me it’s PS, TX and Hunter in that order. Good luck Crow

I’m laughing at these comments about cocking.. COME ON .. If your hunting with it do you struggle to cock a sub 20 ft lb gun every now and then.. it’s like the people who complain about how hard a R1 is to cock. 🤣
I’m not bashing anyone with age related or injury prone shoulders, but if so shoot a 12 ft lb gun.. Any thing at 12 ft lbs is easy as hell to cock or you have it horridly set up.
Obviously none of you have cocked a 30 plus ft lb hammer…

I love the looks of the PS , THAT BEING SAID I DISPISE UNDERLEVERS ..I abhord the loading positions and find a break barrel far superior for ease and speed.. Here comes the FT weekend champs now to tell me about accuracy.. 🤨
I hunt , I don’t shoot metal …
