N/A Avenger vs Fortitude in 177?

Although you can still buy a Gen2 Fortitude in .177 right now from some retailers... (Pyramyd only has 1 left in stock)

The Benjamin and Crosman websites haven't listed them in stock for quite some time... at least 1 or 2 years.

I believe the Fortitude is no longer in production. Although I could be wrong about that, I do believe I have seen more than a few posts stating that the Fortitude is no longer being made.

I have a Gen2 in .177 and still use it with great (sub-MOA) success out from 10-50 yards using FX 10.3 pellets with a few tree rat kill shots out to ~75 yards.

What is your intended use for this airgun?

Also, the regulator in my Fortitude is failing (regulator creep), so the first shot is noticeably slower. That means I have to hold over for the first shot and following shots (within a few minutes) are consistently higher than the first shot.

Depending on what you intend to use the airgun for, you may do better by looking at unregulated guns.

If you REALLY think you need a long shot string that is "relatively" consistent, then regulated airguns will give you that.

However, with the Akela from ~2650psi to ~2450psi I get ~28 shots with extreme fps consistency and sub-MOA accuracy.

In my case, I pest with my airguns and that FIRST shot is the most important one after a gun has been sitting for a few hours or days.

A failing regulator makes this very hard to do consistently.

Again, if you are looking for something that gives you LOTS of shots with relatively good consistency, buy a regulated gun, but just remember that ALL REGULATORS FAIL and a well tuned unregulated gun will give you a smaller amount of consistent shots, but they will be VERY consistent.

If you are going to be hunting or pesting, I would highly recommend an unregulated gun. Tune it for max efficiency and pump it up (hand pump or compressor) as needed to stay in the "sweet spot" of psi.

Sorry to be so long winded and maybe not even really say what I needed to say...

In essence, don't get lured in to regulators as a panacea. My most accurate air rifle right now is a Benjamin Akela .177 (unregulated) which can do MOA or less at 96 yards... if the winds allow.

Depending on what you want to do, regulated airguns have their place, but remember regulators WILL fail.

Again, don't let the allure of a regulated airgun cloud your view of a lot of excellent unregulated guns!
