Homemade Stock II

Recently I had knee surgery, and was faced with at least 3 weeks of downtime. I managed to get down to the shop and looked around for
something to occupy my time….and there it was…that old piece of walnut on the back of the bench. So I decided that stock I’ve been thinking about should come to fruition.….beware…I might have gotten carried away with the pictures…

I made a quick sketch with major dimensions…
IMG_0140.jpeg
and started inletting the action…
IMG_0141.jpeg
hogged out some material under the air tube from this heavy piece of wood…
IMG_0142.jpeg
It fits…
IMG_0147.jpeg
back to the bench to pickup pertinent points…
IMG_0148.jpeg
roughed out trigger area, butt stock, and cheek piece….
IMG_0151.jpeg
sawed the tapers on the table saw….having already milled away my reference surface, I hotmelt glued on a temporary one…
IMG_0152.jpeg
sawed off the hamster…
IMG_0156.jpeg
then the fore end….I really miss my bandsaw..
IMG_0159.jpeg
there’s the pieces…also dug thru my scrap aluminum for stock for the hardware..
IMG_0160.jpeg
first thing was a trigger guard….
IMG_0163.jpeg

After milling and finishing…

IMG_0166.jpeg

Inlet the trigger guard, and milled the height adjustment hardware ….also a couple of dowel centers for locating the cheekpiece..
IMG_0167.jpeg
Roughing out the thumb hole area….
IMG_0168.jpeg
after a little refinement…
IMG_0169.jpeg
starting to work the left side…
IMG_0170.jpeg
after some refinement…
IMG_0172.jpeg
details pretty much
IMG_0173.jpeg
right side pretty much finalized…
IMG_0175.jpeg
roughing in the cheek piece…
IMG_0176.jpeg

Cheek piece pretty much set..
IMG_0178.jpeg

Planeing in the radius on fore end..
IMG_0179.jpeg

Check for fit before final sanding…
IMG_0180.jpeg
another angle…
IMG_0181.jpeg
after final sanding…
IMG_0182.jpeg
after a couple coats of oil….
IMG_0192.jpeg
stippled, buffed,
IMG_0187.jpeg
IMG_0191.jpeg
IMG_0193.jpeg
IMG_0188.jpeg
