HW/Weihrauch HW80 K long range hunter

So, I'll just share what is common with SOME of the new-ish hw50's which is what I have. Apprently a number came over-lubed, and were dieseling and burning up the piston seals. Mine was tuned I think almost when new. VERY few shots thru it, and the seal was burned up. This was of course replaced by the tuner (motorhead). And it does about 16fpe (.22). I think slightly above factory rating. I think generally, the guns are slightly over-sprung possibly with spring fatigue in mind? So, removing this little bit of over-sprung nature tends to increase power a little bit.

So, personally, me being me, if the spring feels like it is doing it's job, I would look into what is needed for disassembly and proper piston/spring lube. Tear it down, replace the seal which I'm sure doesn't cost much, and lube it properly. Should this have to be done to fix a relatively new gun? Of course not. But what is the likelihood the same thing will happen again. What is the liklihood your gun will get lost/damaged/or stolen when shipped? I'm good on all that. I'd sooner fix it myself.

FWIW, I did not have my gun tuned, but it was a sound investment for sure. As I am an absolute novice when it comes to springer tuning. I bought the gun already tuned in like new condition.
I understand your point and thank you. Also I am glad your rifle work well now.

I just do not understand why we as the consumer should have to expect crap from the company that we support.

I know Mr Motörhead is an artist. I hope I can shake his hand one day,

Thank you all, I do appreciate your comments, I believe my rifle must have been packaged wrong and I must have been delivered one marked for England. 🤪

I will let everyone here know how AOA decides to deal with my brand new POS. Thank you

A new from the box gun should not have to be tuned to make factory settings. Thank you

Oops.......

Hey Long_Gun :) ,
Not to give you a hard time, but if you're getting 16 FPE out of a HW50 in .22 caliber -> that's gotta be defying physics.
I know Motorhead is one of the best, but even I didn't think his skills were that advanced?

I agree I think I would send Motörhead a lot more things if he could make that happen,

Perhaps my 401k

Yep, you are absolutely right. My memory is not accurate. I am getting 13 fpe 😅 Not to say it couldnt be done, but I'm sure it would be a terrible idea to do so for at least a couple reasons.

The bore is very likely oversized and the pellets not sealing as well as they should. Or the piston seal is undersized or the compression tube may be a little oversized.

Does it feel slammy when you shoot it? If so, sealing problems are likely your issue.

The 80 isnt the powerhouse that it has always been touted as. The 95 is almost always hot on its heels, with a much better shot cycle.

If I were you, I'd send it back for a replacement. I agree, that in stock trim it should be doing better than that.

If tuning isn’t your thing send it back. If you want to diagnose it, testing the piston seal is easy. Break the barrel and bravely stick your finger over the transfer port. Stroke the barrel up and down and it should suck air and hold on the down stroke and blow on the up stroke. Downside is if you dont do it right you loose a finger.

The shot cycle does not feel odd, it just seems weak. Even cocking the gun seems remarkably easy.

Hey so it’s new gun day for me, HW80 “long rang hunter “ .22 beautiful gun. Fit and finish is outstanding.

The problem I’m having is why does it make 13.5 ftlbs. The factory tag says so and so does the chronograph.

Just read the OP "13.5 ftlbs. The factory tag says so and so does the chronograph." interesting !
Congrats on AOA service .

As long as it comes with a warranty. There's things going on with the new guns a Vortek kit won't fix.
So it seems. What is up with Weihrauch these days? This long making airguns one would think they'd have it all figured out. Are parts being made elsewhere? China maybe? Seems something has changed.
