They are sh*t. For the same money I would recommend Snowpeak. Yes, it it is Chinese but QC is great as is the value for money.

My experience is not the same. I have a snowpeak as well.

A wood stock Avenge-X .25 would be a good budget choice, accurate and enough power to take a coyote.

Ya'll have me convinced, and I think you for that. I am listening to the advice given here and studying the ones recommended. I enjoy the hunt and appreciate the information shared here. I will be buying something, wish I could afford a nice PCP and springer, I like both systems and am understanding the advantages each has in situations. I should have learned how cool this is when I was younger. Thank you all for helping me here. This is a good forum, glad I've found you.

Would strongly encourage you to attend the N50 (National 50 yard) event on March 2nd at Oklahoma City Gun Club. Benchrest event with airguns shooting pellets and shooting slugs. Very likely that many competitors with let you shoot or at least hold their airguns. You will also be able to engage with airgunners that have decades of collective experience and most willingly share their experiences. Save a lot of time and get some hands on experience that makes the internet pale in comparison.

18.13 and klentz, that is a really good idea and I'm trying to make that. I live on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border and I have a big deal in Fayetteville, Arkansas with grandkids around that time and that would be the only thing keeping me from making it. I don't remember exactly what it is or when it is but it was around that time, wife would never let me miss it. When my wife gets home I will find out more about it.

Hope you can make it. By the way, a HW77/HW97 or similar spring airgun are not sufficient to humanely dispatch racoons, coyotes & bobcats even at point blank range IMHO. Just so you know, I've been a hunter (upland, pests and big game) in Colorado for over 55 years.

I agree about the power of the HW97, I'm an old hunter and have other options, I was actually thinking a PCP in .25 might be fun to use. I have a coyote right now that has killed 4 chickens in the last month. He comes up in the day, snags one and leaves. I'm going to try and call him in and get him, there are so many at night its hard to know if you get the right one, they are all bad though, they have really hurt the wild turkey population on my place in the last couple of years.

I'd seriously consider the semi auto Huben K1 in .25 caliber. They are pretty good newer brand and design, and not really stupidly expensive for what you're getting. Contact Kelly at https://krazcool.com for them and maybe even a demo/showing; as he's fairly local to you being just north of Kansas City.

The AvengerX and the JTS both are pretty interesting.

That is a pretty nice looking, simple without much to mess up. I'm trying to learn about how these things work to better understand what I need or want and what is un-necessary. There is probably good info on this forum, I've been just looking on the internet, valves, tanks and o'rings, it shouldn't be too complicated I think.

I was actually thinking of the HW 97, same gun as the HW 77 but with scope, I'm 70 and the eyes need a little help. I didn't really know anything about the PCP system and the AEA looked cool so I thought maybe I should go that route. My wife wants to learn to shoot better and I thought it would be easy for her. We live in the country and need to shoot racoons and coyotes and bobcats as they pick off our birds from time to time, we have free range chickens and guineas. I have other things I can use on them, just thought air rifle would be fun to use.

So far the one company I am not going to go with is AEA thanks, haha.

My understanding that AEA Challenger is more or less on par with other brands up to $1000 or so. Sure, it has a few things to put your hands on, but nothing over the roof. Can be equipped with the AEA regulator or a higher quality Huma-Air.

Once I fixed my big bore Challenger I shot a few hundreds of slugs in a single digit weather and haven't had any malfunctions. The precision at 100 yards for that basically a shotgun was OK. I confess I had to straighten the barrel, yes.

It is heavy.
