This is my new best friend when I go hunting. For emergencies only.

Oh for sure, never know when I'm gonna need a quick shot from a .500 S&W Magnum to put down a charging/wounded ground squirrel or prairie dog.

You haven't lived til you've got a full grown prairie dog charging straight at you with mal intent and blood rage in his beady little eyes. I'd sure never dare step foot in the wilds of a prairie dog town without my trusty sidearm.

Can't even count how many times I've emptied my Model 500 into such a life threatening wounded animal, only to have him roll to a stop at my feet. Seen my life flash before my eyes every time.

what are those animals you are talking about I've never heard of them but they sure sound ferocious and scary. :ROFLMAO:

I carry a side arm any time I’m in the woods archery or PCP hunting. I generally don’t carry when I’m hunting with a firearm. It‘s not about do I have to. It’s more about regretting not having one. And yes, it’s happened. And I’m glad I had it. But 99% of the time, completely not necessary.

I've always carried a sidearm Within quick Reach wherever possible in oh 40 or so years, I've had to pull it 3 times and thankfully all ive ever actually shot was a charging wild boar .. but glad i had it ..with the world these days you never know when some crazy, road raging is gonna follow you home or something and corner you .. actually ive been keeping a can of bear spray handy lately also, and trying to get used to the idea .. the thought of legal proceedimgs even if justified for popping someone is almost as scary as them being a threat lol .. i figure a good dowsing with bear spray could end some confrontations non lethally anyhow ..

I have been considering for exactly the same reason a byrna le.. I used to work in transport company carrying bank bags and medicine for clinic and I had to carry and thankfully I never had to use it, once I was fortunate to have a patrol car around the corner when I was in danger.. not only legal consequences but I, well I don't like to hurt anything.. guess if I had the same job now I'd have to have one of each..

oh I once stopped at a neighbor yard seeing that my other neighbor who raised Russian wild boar, his animals got out.. and they were tearing up the whole yard.. I didn't have anything 🤔 but I had seen them before and I ran at them screaming and they took off.. probably thought I was crazy 🤣 just like the neighbor did.. after I chased them off the property and home I got back to my truck and the neighbor was actually home hiding in his house and he came out and said don't you know they are dangerous 🤣🤣 apparently not.. they thought I was dangerous 🤣🤣 I was young then and I don't know what I'd have done if they came after me.. probably got tree'd on the fence 🤣 anyway it was all good.. same neighborhood raised buffalo and I was totally scared of the big male.. he'd run through a gate if he got mad.. rounded the herd up with my horse several times.. not good fencing for them.. those crazy buffalo when they take off will run a mile straight through anything.. nothing like herding cows.. well I hope you all get a good laugh at my younger days.. hopefully we learn more as we get older.. now I'm not up to anything with a horse or livestock.. just my cattle dogs
stay safe

I don't, but I should. I was watching a coon through my ATN 4K Pro mounted on my .357 Bulldog. He was facing directly away from me, so I was just waiting for him to turn broadside for a shot. He was at 30 yards raiding my bird feeder and seemingly unaware of my presence. Suddenly, he turns and starts running directly at me growling, snarling and hissing. When he got to like 15 yards, I fired in self-defense. I was up on my deck. I left the gun in the rest and ran like a girl, trying to get the door shut before he got in the house. My wife heard it all and was laughing her a$$ off at me. The next morning, I went out to check the scene of the attack. My deck is about 15-18" off the ground at that point. There was blood on the front edge board of the deck about 4 feet right of where I was sitting, and the coon was deceased under the deck. I had to belly crawl under the deck with a long stick to drag him out. The best part is, I have it all on a dark grainy un-edited video that has a bunch of nothing after about one minute, because the camera was still running after I went girl.
