Brocock/BRK Ghost - “if i just had 2 more inches…”

of shroud that is 😬

Put new .177 carbine barrel on my .22HP ghost but find it is too loud for my liking. Unfortunately, my .22 Falx diameter is too big to clear 480cc bottle, so I’ve considered:

1 - buy smaller 300cc bottle (less shots 🥺)
2 - see if I can get a ghost plus shroud to replace shorter carbine shroud (do they exist?)
3 - put the longer .22 hp shroud on and see if it quiets down enough (kinda defeats purpose of the short carbine barrel)
4 - open to other ideas…

What would AGN do?

The only part of the shroud kit that determines length is the carbon fiber tube......and carbon fiber tube is relatively cheap online.

So two options, source a longer carbon fiber tube of the same specs and reuse the shroud hardware to make yourself a longer shroud. Or buy an entire new longer shroud kit.

just go to a machine shop/ metal yard and get or order a piece of aluminum tubing.. have it threaded if it is needed.. I'm sick of the plastic and carbon fiber stuff and those thin barrel liners..
if I ever get a chance to do a custom build for myself, I'm going to try to get a good old fashioned hexagon barrel like would go on a Henry golden boy, along with open sights and then machine to fit a quality action.. assuming that I could afford the action..
don't have a clue where you are, but if you were close, I'd volunteer to do whatever you need, in exchange for a visit and well if I was not too tired.. maybe shoot some targets..

Turn the reg pressure down a bit? Back off on the wheel a bit? My ghost Carbine is pretty quiet as configured using a Weihrauch moderator - buying another smaller valved bottle is a great option

One would think you would get a boatload of shots with a 300cc bottle. The gun would be ergonomically correct too. With the 480 you are probably looking forward to only filling the gun once a month. I’d try the 300 for a while. You might like it.
Thanks @Vetmx - it may come to that. Thanks for the feedback

Get a thinner moderator dedicated to your .177 barrel?

Oh and that is an interesting setup you have as a bag rider. Looks solid and won’t move while you are testing/shooting on that bench
@Triggs75 - leaning that way now. I think a moderator in 1.22 diameter will fit (perhaps a Hugget Snipe or Huma Mod30). That was just a random block of wood to get the barrel lined up for some quick chrono work

@Franklink - thanks. I'll need to check with AoA on a Plus shroud as I just don't have the time (and required tooling) to roll my own shroud.

I believe I saw you had a Hugget Atom on your carbine with a 300cc bottle at one time. Is the diameter on that really 1.22? I think a 1.22 dia moderator will fit in conjunction with a 480cc bottle - might make it look less "awkward" too.

Get a 3 section Huma Mod30. I used that with my Alpha Wolf .177 barrel and it was extremely effective. A touch more noise reduction than a Huggett Snipe IMO.
@ctshooter - good info. Any suggestion on best place to source - I'm seeing palmbeachairguns has them listed but will need to check stock. Thanks!

Fair points. Primary concern is noise but I still want to be around 20fpe. I'm pushing 10.34's at around 900fps and it's pretty loud without moderator.

Currently leaning towards smaller diameter moderator now. Thanks

Here's some mock ups. 480 cc barrel, Carbine barrel/shroud. Both the 0db and the Huggett Atom have plenty of clearance with the bottle (shroud and both moderator are essentially the same diameter.).

How it looks with the Huggett ATOM.

Its 29.5inches overall in the above phot but would be 29" without the aftermarket extended air stripper. It's about an inch longer with the ODB, (110 I think is the model).

Reference next to a HW50s, typical sporter length of 40.5"

Hopefully that gives you an idea.

Thanks a lot for the pics @Franklink - measurements indicated 1.22” would clear but nothing helps like seeing one mocked up.
