Shooting my Veteran with my new friends.

My new guests...I was assured...were "used to gunfire"...where they are standing is around 50 yards from my targets. Those of us that have or are familiar with Veterans know how quiet they are out of the box, I have mine turned down to around 800 fps with domes in addition to having a Sumo fitted...it's about as quiet as an airgun can be, although noise isn't an issue for me...I was throughly suprised with the first shot...mostly hitting the cardboard...the horses hightailed it to the middle of the field...wouldn't have believed it...can hardly hear it in inside the house! I had many cats and a few dogs endure MUCH noiser springers without even waking up from their naps! All I know about horses is they are expensive and they can hurt you...easily. I told these guys and gal...that as my guests they were just gunna' have to get used to it...They were quite impressed with the Vets preformance compairing that days group to one six months ago...even with a little wind...CP domes @ 30yds off my knee....penney group is what the horses saw.

Back in the day when I lived in the only house in 110 square miles, my horse would let me shoot my Ruger Busleys from the saddle or standing holding the reins. I was training him for Mounted Shooting, but never competed in mounted shooting. I did win the Blackpowder State title one year in SASS.

I once held the reins and shot a coyote after crawling about 2 feet into a old log and stump pile, holding the reins with one hand and shooting with the other.

The 45 colt Ruger was carried every time I went riding, mostly in case I got bucked off and broke a femor or hung upside down in the stirrup, in areas that they would never have found me. I was not suicidal, just didn’t want to be eaten by the bears or coyotes.

I shot 5-7 K rounds a year around the horses while they grazed, mostly with black powder.

But bear in mind I grew up up on a Ranch and my father won the bronc riding at Madison Square Garden, The Calgary Stampede among others. so I knew how to ride.
