Quick question ..

Neither. Get an HW97 for the bench. Better than either in almost every way.

The 98 would be the next choice. Fine shooting guns and right in the middle ground as far as power and weight go.

The 80 wouldn't even be up for consideration. Inefficient, rough shooting, and more weight, cost and bulk for no real benefit.

I have the HW97K and a TX200 MK3 Both awesome guns , but what I don't have Is a break barrel , but It looks like the HW 98 Is way out In front .

My HW98 arrived today from Krale ,unboxed It and the gun looks great I went to clean the barrel and noticed the gun was cocked WTF but not loaded so now im thinking It must have been cocked at the factory as Krale don't check or test fire the guns before they ship them out , so my other thought was how long has the gun been cocked as we all know springers should not stay cocked for any length of time , anyway I cronyd the gun and Its shooting around 840 fps using H&N 8.64g which docent seem to shabby ( does that sound about right ? ) 1/4" group at 45yrd . So I guess It being cocked all that time hasn't effected It any .
So all In all Im happy with the gun .

Thanks to all you guys that recommended It .

Leave it cocked forever if you want, it will be fine. Tom Gaylord tested and debunked that a long time ago. If the spring breaks it will be because of the loose spring guide when being fired. I have seen several HW97 stock springs fail in the first few months. Motorhead tuned mine when it was new, made a well fitted spring guide for it. It still has the stock spring years later.

13 ft lbs is normal for a full power HW97 or 95 the last few years.

I intentionally cocked my TX 200 in a futile attempt to get below 12 FPE. It was Just a shade over 12 (12.4?) This was a suggestion from my shooting buddy. I tried cocking if for 6 hr, 12, hr, 24 hrs,...I was going to go another 48 hrs but ran out of patience. The gun was still shooting at the same 12.4 FPE after leaving it cocked.

I ended up heating the bottom coil and collapsing 1 or 1.5 coils to get below 12 FPE.

Sounds like your gun is shooting fine. No harm no foul. Just keep an eye on it and maybe chrono it after 1-2 tins.
