Got my LGV .22 in this afternoon (thanks @Flintsack !). Spent about an hour testing pellets and settled on the Norma 15.89gr. The bore seems to be a bit smaller than what I'm used to with the HWs because the JSBs and FTTs are a bit to snug and kind of click into the breech. The smaller Normas glide in much more smoothly and as a result seem to be shooting a bit better.

I'm absolutely amazed at how smooth shooting this gun and the LGU both are. Really is ashame they aren't around any more.

One got away from me a bit but I'm still very happy with this. I'm a little underwhelmed with the power level but thats easily fixable. Its currently hovering around 13ftlbs but I'm thinking I would like to see it in the 15-17ftlb range. Thoughts?

Edit: First 50yd group (5x). It may be in my best interest just to leave this gun alone for now 😄

Glad to see another person enjoying the LGVs and LGUs. They are great guns that are very smooth and made even better with custom spring guides.

Are you planning to tune or perhaps replace the trigger? It’s the only part of these rifle that was a small let down relative to Weihrauch and Air Arms. The safety mechanism tends to create additional friction which can make the trigger more mushy than ideal.

Enjoy your new Lgv, mine is 22 cal as well and is a pleasure to shoot. I think mine is 23 joule, don’t have a crony but if you want more zip go to either the 9 or 12 grain H&N greens.
As for the trigger I used a longer screw but the original setup shot well for me. Looking at that 50 yard group I wouldn’t be changing anything.

I have a Rowan in my LGU and I love it. Its a clean 10oz break and it looks fantastic on there. I actually may slightly prefer that to the Rekord but the Rekord is still a bit more consistent. I'll probably toss one into the LGV at some point too but to be completely honest, I'm not hating the factory trigger. We'll see. After my bank account recovers a bit I may just bite the bullet and order one.

What power levels are you running yours at out of curiosity?

Thanks man! I'm inclined to agree with you. I really don't use my springers to take pests further than 50yds frequently so the extra oomph really isn't necessary, although I have taken some groundhogs with my 17fpe 97K so the bump here wouldn't hurt. I'll play it by ear but as of now she's staying where she is.

I have a LGU Varmint .22, I was lucky enough to buy the last one in Canada before they discontinued them. I have a Rowan but not installed. The smoothness of this gun helped to convince myself to scoop the LGR. Enjoy your Masterpiece. Crow

I was drooling over that LGR yesterday. Congrats by the way! I see the standard models pop up in the classifieds and may need to hop on one at some point.

Definitely give that Rowan a chance though. It really transforms these Walthers from great guns to damn near perfection.

There’s an old saying that starts with if it ain’t broke…

That shot cycle is so smooth. I shot some incredibly small groups with that rifle. Nice to see it in one piece… how did you like the packing?

FedEx could have backed over that box with their truck and it still would have been in one piece. Packaging was perfect 👌

Joules to FPE multiply by .7376, example 23.204 Joules = 17.115 FPE = 725 FPS = 220.98 MPS.

Here are my numbers in various pellets:

LGU #1 in .22:
AA Diabolo 16gr at 678
AA Falcon 13.43gr at 725

LGU #2 in .22
AA Diabolo 16gr at 647
AA Falcon 13.43gr at 700
H&N FT 14.66gr at 667

LGU #3 in .177
JSB 8.4gr at 905
AA Diabolo 8.4gr at 895
RWS Super dome 8.3gr at 910
H&N FT 8.64gr at 880
AA Diabolo Express 7.87gr at 937

LGV in .177:
AA Diabolo 8.4gr at 865
H&N Baracuda 9.57gr at 790

It should be noted that the LGV and LGU are not directly comparable power wise. Although they share the same power plant the LGV has a longer transfer port, leading to different results.

Ok so this is weird. I do NOT have the Falcons but I do have the JSB RS 13.43 pellets which I assume are the same. In every gun I put them through they actually shoot basically the same speed as the JSB 15.89 pellets, this gun included. I bought them from Utah a few years ago so I'm wondering if its just an odd batch.

At first glance it’s weird but it will make sense after I explain what I think is going on.

The AA Falcons are the same weight but use a different mold which gives them a deeper cavity and no “neck” between the head and the skirt compared to the JSBs. To maintain the same weight this shape difference results in a slightly thinner skirt toward the bottom of the pellet on the Falcons. During the air compression phase the Falcons thinner skirt seals better to the barrel, either providing the pellet with more “pop” or less air escapes around the skirt during the acceleration phase.

Well, that’s my hypothesis. There is a visible difference in the shape of both pellets despite the same weight.
