High speed slugs .22cal : the future for long range shooting.

Since a few months now I decided to go for 100 yards ( or more) shooting , especialy in bench rest competition , anf I thought that .30 cal was the caliber to go for. But it seems that more and more guns are designed to shoot high speed slugs , in smaller caliber like the .22 .
Do you think it would be the future for EBR , or is it better to stay with heavier calibre ? Or maybe to use heavy calibre AND high velocity ?

EBR will remain pellets at 100Y for the foreseeable future. IMHO the .25 Heavy is your best choice...
There has been talk about slugs, and that pellets at 100Y required too much "luck", and that the targets were too small, yadda yadda yadda. However, it's been demonstrated recently on AGN Benchrest forum that 243 and 245 are easily achievable under mild conditions... It hasn't been done in actual competition yet, (238 is the high score for any of the big tournaments (EBR, RMAC, PAC)), but it's only a matter of time... Winning scores in 2022 were 231 for RMAC and 229 for EBR, which are very close, especially since the EBR targets are slightly smaller than the RMAC targets.

Thanks Centercut , things are a bit more clear . I just din't know which gun to buy for 100 yards shooting : dedicated to high speed slugs or ...more conventional pellets shooter .

Rmac was won by a crown shooting 22cal pellets. Is it the norm? No, but it has been done.
The new trend towards 22 and high speed projectiles is those looking to compete in prs competitions or nrl/elr competitions. They’re just trying to compete with the powder burners. I see no reason for it, but I’m an avid pellet shooter myself. I dabble in slugs from Tim’s to time, but that 25csl king heavy has me coming back every time!

Yes , the .25 King Heavy are the pellets I shoot with my Cricket bullpup and carbine ,and my Wildcat with best results . My Cricket Tactical shoots JSB 18gr and NSA slugs .216 with same accuracy.

Yes, I also have similar accuracy with my 18gn pellets in 22. The major difference with the king heavy, is it’ll buck the wind almost as good as a slug. Not sure how they do it, but when you only need an inch of windage at 100yds in the wind, compared to 3 or 4 in an 18gn, it makes all the difference.
