I don't understand why the gun has to shoot a 40gr bullet at 1000 fps to be competitive, quite sure a 34gr at 1000 fps will be just as accurate,......seems there's a lot or reaching for ghosts on this thread.

I don't understand how there's even a question that he's sponsored. When I threw that out there I meant it more as a positive, straight from the horses mouth sort of thing. If anybody knows about the gun and can report shot counts, power levels and performance, it would be a sponsored shooter.

I too have no interest in toting around the airgun equivalent of a Barret but I think it’s cool that they built a gun with a specific purpose. I believe the more a manufacturer narrows down the purpose and projectiles of a gun, the better the gun will be. Modular too many purpose guns border on being train wrecks.

It's all the marketing saying stuff along the lines of shooting the same bc/weight slugs as the bullets that the PRS rimfire guys are shooting. Okay, show us. I'm also curious to know how it shoots a 34grainer @ 1000fps. I'm just more curious to know how many shots it gets at speeds and weights that the PRS rimfire guys are used to, since it is being marketed that way.
And it seems you're referring to the BRK Ghost here? The Ghost and the Panterra aren't even trying to reach the same end-user. Two completely different platforms intended for two completely different uses. I don't see how either manufacturer would even consider the other "selling to the same crowd." They are not each other's competition. Ie. my comments here aren't even loosely related to, nor influenced by my review of the Ghost.

I agree I figured the ghost was the competition for the Impact, and the panthera was aimed at the red wolf. That seems to be a more logical situation. That being said, I wouldn’t kick either of them out of bed for eating crackers…..LOL but in reality if anyone purchases a Impact, ghost, red wolf or panthera they would have a dam fine rifle.

Shooting a 40g slug at slower speeds will actually buck wind better than shooting them fast. So there is a lot of different strategies a guy could employ at a 22NRL match

I don't care about speed and shot count as I'm shooting from the bench and may fill up my gun any time I want as much times I want within 30 minutes time. My main aim is accuracy, all other parameters are secondary.
Here is an example of how 40gr slugs can shoot at 902fps (275 meters per second) to 160 yards distance. So why should I need more speed as some of you try to insist.

Part 2. Know your gun power abilities
The next step I’ve taken to get acquainted with my FX Panthera in a better way is knowing it’s power parameters. My thoughts were the following. Panthera has a huge power plenum of 156cc and it is not an easy task to take it all out during shooting (at least this comes out of my previous experience with this type of airguns). And my thoughts were that using MAX hammer spring tension is not a bad idea, because on high pressures I usually use, the hammer can barely harm the valve. So, there is nothing bad in setting the hammer to maximum power level (that is a bit above 4 micro wheel settings) and testing the gun on different regulator adjustments.I’ve made my tests on 120 – 200 bar with the step of 10 bar and made 4 shots on each to get average velocity of that setting. I’m not sure if using regulator on the pressures above 170 bar is “legal” so don’t try to repeat.
Here is the chart of results that I’ve got (just to remind – 40gr .2185 slug)

You’ve got to take into account that the slugs I use are of rather big diameter - .2185 and of unusual shape – they are more like .22lr ammo. Usually slugs like H&N of the same weight gives +25-30 fps speed on the same settings (from my experience with FX Impact M3).
My intuition tells me that one of the most interesting setups for me (besides the one show in part one of that blog) will be the following:
175 bar reg pressure,
2,85 microwheel hammer settings
970 fps (294 meters per second) with my 40gr .2185 slugs
So, I decided to test that setup from 250 bar in the bottle and got 16 good shots. Here is the prove:
If everything goes fine, I plan to go outside and shoot at my shooting range tomorrow to at least 100 yards distance + will make some of my ideas come true.

Looks like to get a 40g+ .22 slug at 1050 it will take a heavier hammer.

Impressive without the tungsten hammer!!! Usual factory FX hammers are never made to go over 150 bars and clearly Panthera hammer can open the valve even at 190 bars!!! Now I'm wondering what will the tungsten hammer do. Thanks for the great information! I was going to do the same experiment when I get mine so you saved me quite a few slugs! Looking at the graph I probably will start mine at 160-170 ranges.

Indeed! The power and shot count combo at the same power level seems to be better than my impact with 480 bottle & 700mm barrel.

For what its worth - I shot the HN40’s yesterday from my 700 Panther(a), a bit breezy and 28°F. Shot count of 16 from 250 bar. Reg at 172b with hammer spring maxed achieved 970fps average. 10 shot group size was under moa but not by much. (I did find the HN36gr extremely accurate at 960fps). Lots more testing to do - when it warms up!

Very impressive! Making shots like that in a Russian winter must take skill.
I’m still unsure what advantage there is shooting airguns at 22LR speeds and weights (why not just use a 22 and save $$$?) but these results are impressive.
